Well, your "gap" would be .010" and your actual headspace measurement would be .226" but I think you got what I meant. Of course these numbers are not exact considering the method but usually they are very close.

Rob, I don't follow what you are talking about here. He is saying that he has 10 thou between the bolt face and the cartridge base.

What is the .226" you are referring to?

His brass likely measures .216" from the belt to the base plus the .010" gap he has = .226" headspace measurement. Bubba method of course but surprisingly it is usually very close to reality.

Again, ask a smith. It might not mean anything more to an experienced gunsmith than a bothersome question. I would change it if it were mine.

I will measure it again later this week. I may have been reluctant to compress the tape while measuring. I am also not 100% sure that I counted the pieces of tape properly.
