Hey guys, I know Casey from Tac Ord is highly recommended for any m14 smithin' jobs but he's out east. Is there someone in the Vancouver area that has the tools (barrel vise or receiver vice) that's willing to help out a fellow m14er? I'm willing to pay. I went to m14doctor's clinic years ago and know what I need to do with indexing, but I don't have the tools or the space to do it.

I checked with dlask, Bits and Pieces, all the local shops but nobody can do it. Is there any other gun smith in BC that you'd recommend as well?

Can PM me if you're up for it. Thanks in advance!

Wanna drive (can you say "Road Trip" ?) to YYC?
I'll be there at the TSE in Cgy for Saturday 10 Sep 2016. We can easily sort this out. What's not to like?

You get to hang with a poopload of AB M14 lovers (some of the very best here in Canada) and then have a pulled pork Poutine lunch at the Farmers' Market next door. You guys shoulda seen that ruckus we caused in the parking lot as we were knocking off flash hiders while clamped to my Mac Trail DVise, Tacoma trailer hitch 2" receiver. All the Birkenstock wearing, Volvo drivers/families walked by staring at a dozen of us with evil 7.62mm baby killing weapons in our hands waiting to knock off said welded FS units!

Nothing to see here, folks. Keep moving on! ha ha ha ha

Or you can always mail me the barrelled receiver! LOL

Cheers!

Update on this situation!

* Fedex was super fast getting this barreled receiver here
* They advised that if I could turn things round, I would have until later in the afternoon for a pickup to happen
* Indexing job was dead easy, wrapping all the protective masking tape took longer than pulling on the receiver wrench
* I knurled that barrel for at tighter op rod guide fit
* Fedex was at my home within one hour of calling them for the return journey back to Christy Clark Land
* This CGN forum is the best place since we have the best of the shooting community right here!

Cheers,

Barney

SO... after a few range trips, troubleshooting, some part swapping, and getting help from various people here, my rifle is "done"! Special thank-you to Barney aka TacticalTeacher for being so generous in helping out and giving advice when I got stuck!

Things that were tweaked/fixed/replaced:

1. Dremel/file off the Norc trigger housing tabs so that the it sits high enough for the sear to catch the hammer. Excellent info from the sticky here. I had to file quite a bit so took some elbow grease, but safety is first!
2. Reindex the barrel and check head space
3. Shim the gas block for tight lock up and proper gas lock rotation
4. Dremel off the MASSIVELY high Norc front sight blade so that the point of impact is correct
5. Knurl the barrel for tight lock up with the EBR op rod guide
6. Replace bolt stop with USGI part. Norc one was not catching the bolt properly and didn't lock up on last round consistently
7. Replace ejector, ejector spring, extractor, extractor spring, extractor plunger with USGI parts. To fix ejection angle issue with the ARMS18 mount
8. Replace op rod spring guide with M14.ca part
9. Replace op rod spring with NM part
10. Replace op rod spring guide connector lock pin with USGI part with proper length.

PHEW. Now it shoots smoothly and is rock solid. Early testing seems to be shooting at around 1.5MOA but I think it will do better with proper ammo and better bipod/bag. Will need to tinker with the EBR's barrel set screw as well. Apparently a properly done EBR can shoot sub-MOA so I'd be happy as hell to get anywhere close to that!

Future project:
1. Refinish the surface. Norc stuff is rough! Maybe cerokote it
2. Might tinkering a bit more with the ejector spring so it ejects more flat...

You guys have been very helpful. Thanks again (especially Barney!).

you should ask the Port Alberni crew about the time we did a clinic at the freemason's hall and were out in the parking lot knocking off flashiders and indexing on the tailgate of someone's truck. Was a real fun time...... the rcmp even showed up LOL uninvited I might add..... I won't forget the one constable... she was smoking hot hahaha
Cops rolled, confused, but all good LOL

and damn, that's a sweet rig right there. Love the sage chassis , well done all around.

Thanks Thomas! Learned a lot from your clinic years ago. Goof stuff!

If anyone in the Vancouver area needs to borrow the bolt disassembly tool, let me know. Handy little thing.

We have so much to be thankful for here in this forum. Such a wealth of knowledge and available help. What's not to like??? :)

I've had many remarks / comments/ observations / anecdotes about how we (Main Battle Rifle forum) get many questions about Milsurp, Black Rifles, Precision rifles, shotguns, Hunting rifles, et al. Right here in our shared forum!

That's a tribute to this community right here in this forum and on CGNutz... That's a great thing. Helps deal with all the stupidity in the world / workplace / highway/ commute / relatives / in-laws / US presidential race / etc, etc, etc!

You guys rock!

Shot my M305 for the first time, definitely need to get my barrel indexed. shot at 10yds, 25yds, 50yds & 100 yds. Couldn't even hit a paper target. (I'm a noob)

I'm assuming you're using the iron sights? If so, go this thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...-a**-with-M14-irons-sights-(and-grade-4-math) to learn all about the M14 sights. I have a funny feeling that they need adjusting although, but missing a target at 10yards? You've got to be kidding, right?
Start at 25y and use a large sighting-in target. At 25 yards, one click on the rear sight moves your impact about 1/4". If your shots fall 2" low and 1" right, adjust your elevation 8 clicks up and 4 clicks left. Once sighted in at 25yards, do this all over again at 100yards. Just make sure that each click on the sight now moves the impact 1" not 1/4".
