Help with recoil !!

Recoil while hunting is not a factor unless you've been pounded senseless at the range and developed an unconcious flinch, then it is a factor and you may miss your game. Get a Limbsaver, they work great. I put one on a friends Marrocchi over and under 12 gauge and he claims it cut the felt recoil by nearly half. Any way you slice it, a 12 gauge slug gun with full house loads is not pleasant off a benchrest.

I need your help. I got the Mossy 500 12 gauge 3 barrel combo awhile back and decided I would try deer hunting this year. I got a cheap tasco red dot, put on the rifled cantilever barrel, grabbed some sabots and off I went to the range. I got set up at the 50 yard to sight in, aimed the dot, pulled the trigger and HOLY S#IT I thought my teeth were gonna fall out.Now that is what I call bone jarring recoil. Does anyone know if limb-saver recoil pads work ??? Or anything else....noway I will shoot this and hit vitals of deer. Thanks in advance.

Just think how the deer will feel.

If all this doesn't work, get yourself a gas operated semi, put a good recoil pad on it if it doesn't come with a good one, reload shells to the level you are comfortable with. This kinda thing is the best reason to reload shotgun shells.

Thanks for more good ideas. I have ordered the Limb-saver and a PAST shoulder pad. Besides lead shot is there anything else I could fill the stock with ?? I want to be able to use the Mossy for my first season of deer but I want to know I will be able to hit my target.I have next week off and will be at the range at least 3 of those days.I feel the pain already :D:D:D I will try shooting from different positions this time.

Or, maybe, since you are trying to sight-in an optical sight, do what the big bore rifle shooters do. They shoot standing up, with the forearm resting on a padded surface, and their off shoulder steadied agaisnt a pole or other guide to reduce sway. In this way, the recoil just pushes them back, and they do not have their upper body weight resisting the force. Since it is highly unlikely you will have the bench and bags in the field, the zero you get from sighting-in standing will be far more representative of the results you will get from a hunting shot anyway. You get to win twice. Better zero, and less punishment.

One a practical shotgun course, I had to sight in a Mossy 500 in 2 3/4 using slugs from the prone, on fine gravel, and I had let my partner take my elbow pads off the range. Makes one focus on his shots, to ensure a good zero in a minimum number of rounds!!
