A friend who knows nothing about semiauto guns (he is a good hunter/shooter) just dropped off this shotgun for me to look at. I have completely disassembled it as it was the dirtiest shotgun I have ever seen in person.
It was malfunctioning he told me with 3" shells. (His dads words)This gun was his fathers and it was just given to him. He said his dad most likely never once cleaned it other than an every 10 year barrel cleaning.
Anyhow, when I took it apart I noticed numerous things that look problematic.
1) a partial O-ring fell out when I slid the forearm off.
2) the piston ring and the second ring the piston ring seats into both look to be missing a small piece of metal, and they have a vertical split. (Maybe they come like that, I have never seen a new one to compare it)
The second ring I just mentioned that fits with the piston ring has a groove around the circumference. Does a rubber seal/gasket fit in this groove?? I see a groove in the magazine tube that I think uses an O-ring, bit does the ring use a second one?
3)The follower broke and the spring ejected into the action.
I had a spare mossberg spring and a mossberg S&J DELRIN follower on my parts pile, and they seem to work good so far.
So really, I just need help with where I could find the O-ring(s) and if the piston/ring needs replacement. Were they a continuous metal ring or a metal strip that was bent circular?
Thanks for any insight and help guys. He wants to give this gun to his son. I always try to go out of my way to ensure our youth get every opportunity to shoot and own guns, especially inherited gems from Grandpa to their grandson.
I can send pics of the parts to anyone thats wants to help. Text or email
