Need help with the identification of a rifle for a friend. It has been in his family for quite some time. She has no markings at all, very unique breech loader & compact space - so not sure what caliber it would take. From the firing pin it looks like a center fire. Barrel is a 24" heavy octagonal. Pics below. Any help/comments would be appreciated.

Looks like a Belgian Warant (spelling?) kind of parlor rifle or garden gun for killing small pests. Maybe it's a smoothbore 9mm rimfire Flobert caliber??

IIRC there was even a rimmed 9mm centrefire shotgun variant also.

maybe?

It is a Warnant variant - one of the "Remington Breeched" varieties. Interesting gunsmithing. The spliced stock, and the added additional locking hoop. Guess it had become loose in the breech, and the extra locking provision was added.
