Hi guys, a little help please. I just bought a Tikka T3 lite 7mm-08 and a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 scope. The rifle is sitting in the gun shop until my PAL arrives. Can you please tell me what I need to purchase to mount my scope for rings, I'm a little confused as this is my first rifle. Do I need rings and a base, or just rings etc? I'd like to mount the scope myself and would prefer stainless colored rings to match my scope. Thanks in advance

Re: Tiika

I have the Tikka T3 Lite in Stainless 30 06. I used Leupold mounts and ring. They are much cheaper than the factory Tikka mounts and rings and are very well made.:)

The optilocks are $$ but damn good rings.

The millet rings suck.. avoid them like the plague.

If i were to do it again, I'd grab the leupold mounts and rings.

Just ask the gunstore guy he'll know.

I went with the Leupold bases and rings route - but I do have some stainless Millet's I can sell you for cheap! I was going to use them, but I needed highs, and the Millet's I bought (off this site) were medium height.

PM if interested...

You could get one piece scope mounts from Talley. They are solid and are awesome for the price, they also come in stainless as well, just google talley scope mounts. I have them on my T3:

consider a 1-piece picatinny rail, especially on your first gun and something as versatile as a 7-08.

itll give you the most versatility in optics mounting. you can get quick-release rings in weaver bases, red-dots, iron sights, etc that all mount on a picatinny rail.

Lots of good options as you can see. On my T-3s I always go with weaver bases and matte burris zee rings in medium height. I think they are the best bang for the buck as far as quality, weight, function, and looks.

I like Leupolds ring and base setup. I find them to be durable, and easy to use. The rear ring is windage adjustable and the front ring is super solid with it's twist in dovetail. Plus they look good too, which is nice if your mounting them on a nice rifle. While I have used Weavers setup alot in the past, they just seem cheesy. The Leupold system will cost you around $50, but in my opinion, it is money well spent.

Talley Light Weights

I have Leupold rings/bases on my T3. Doing it again, I'd go with Talley LWs. I have Talleys on some of my other rifles (M70s) and like them alot.

weaver/picatinny rails are only out of place on fine rifles like classic blued/walnut jobs. i like the rail for versatility, its nice to be able to pop the scope off and swap in a small sight like a Burris Fastfire or another type of scope like switching from a low fixed power to a larger objective varmint scope.
id never put one on a 'fine' rifle since they look out of place but were talking a Tikka here -- its not like its going to 'ruin the graceful lines' or anything :)
:nest:

id say the same about a savage :)

if youre just going to mount one scope on the gun and leave it there forever then yeh, get the leupold style ring/base setup. but rails and QR rings are so damned convenient if you switch scopes/sights etc.
