ive been having problembs with my ruger for a while now. it will load the second round but will not fire it. i use high velocity rounds that should work. ive taken it apart and cleaned it completely and still wont work right, used different magazines and different ammo. there is no visible gouges or cracks in any parts. what should i be looking for?

Take the action apart and make sure the firing pin is not plugged up. Give it a real good cleaning and try again. It it has been firing dirty cheap rounds, it could be fouled up with a soot like crud.

When you say it loads the 2nd round but will not fire it, exactly what does happen when you pull the trigger?

Does the gun go click?

Is there an impact mark (from the firing pin) on the .22 round that was in the chamber?

I seem to recall discussions at rimfirecentral about similar problems, but I dont recall the resolutions to the problems.

it clicks without any marks on the round

Got the same problem... Gonna try replacing the FP and Extractor and return .. the extractor on mine seems not to fit the recess and causes the bolt to shift to seat in the barrel...

My problem is I have to push forward my trigger just a tiny bit and it resets then allows me to fire the next round. The little rod and spring behind the trigger I believe is bent. I want to replace everything with VQ anyway. Just wanting to find somewhere that sells them for decent.

Did you install a scope? Thats what I did and screwed the mounting screws in to tight. I ended up binding the action so the second round would not cycle. I loosened up and everything was okay.

I have a Ruger 10/22 carbine and its has worked great for me without having to do any mods. (Actually, that's not entirely true; I recently added a pad to extend the stock length.) Its a small-game gun for me and it suits me just fine. I am very happy with the quality of my Ruger. A thorough action cleaning takes care of any jamming issues.

Now, whenever somebody here posts about a 10/22 problem, they seem to get lots of well-intentioned advice on how to spend their money by performing various mods or substitutions with aftermarket parts. I don't know about you, but when I buy a new gun, I expect it to work properly. If it doesn't work properly, it goes back to the store where I bought it or back to the manufacturer, whatever the case may be.

If the 10/22 in question was purchased new, my advice would be; get the gun fixed under warranty. Why should you spend more money to fix a gun that is supposed to work in the first place. Are there warranty problems in dealing with Ruger that I am not aware of?
