I bought a used Beretta 686 Ultralight OU on CGN a few years ago. I love the gun. The previous owner (or the one before that) found the recoil of this light gun to be un-manageable and cut the gun to a shorter LOP while installing a soft rubber Limbasaver pad. Didn't do a super job but I can certainly live with it (this is a field gun for me, not a show-piece). I have experienced some trouble over the years with the sticky heel of the gun catching on my shirt/coat as I mount the gun. Today, I shot a buddy's gun that had a slick hard-rubber recoil pad and I was amazed how well it slipped into place withouth a choppy "out, up, back" gunmount. I would really appreciate any suggestions about pads that I could replace the existing rubber pad with. I have seen some that have the heel cut back on a sharp angle ("Sporting Clay" pads?) but mostly if I can find somethign with a well-rounded heel and a coating of slippery material I would be happy. ALthough I don't mind if the recoil increases a bit, it needs to be a full thickness of 1" to not further reduce the LOP (I don't have the stock piece that was cut out). I also noted various products for making the pad more "slick". Any experience/feedback about those would be great too.
Thanks in advance!

Try a Morgan adjustable recoil pad. It is long enough to not further reduce the LOP and is nowhere near as sticky as the Limbsaver. The big plus is that because of it's adjustability, you can fine tune the fit of the gun to you.

Haha - I actually put some duct tape on last night, but it looks pretty trailer-trashy! lol! Electrical tape sounds better - I will try that for now. I like the look of the pachymar skeet/sporting clays pad that have a plastic insert in the heel - but I suppose that the electrical tape achieves the same thing!

hmm

Have you thought about putting a leather pachmayr recoil pad on. It just slips on over the stock and is secured with some velcro. I put one on my BPS and it works pretty good.
