Help with sunshade

I bought a used Vortex Venom. I know new they come with sunshade and throw lever but I wasn't expecting either. However, it did come with a sunshade (so its a bonus for me) but it doesn't fit, seems like the outside of the sunshade threads is about 2mm smaller than the Venom's inside threads. Its black and aluminum. No branding on it. The one that sold it to me never tried to use it after getting it from where they purchased from, and has since lost the seller details.
Anyone have any idea what it could be for? not sure if there are any 54 or 55mm objective lenses out there or maybe this is for a 56mm objective but smaller than the venom one?

Emailed Vortex, they're sending me sunshade and throw lever for the Venom free of charge, since you can't buy it online. What a warranty, despite me being at least the 3rd owner!

Anyway, still waiting for a optics guru to see this and maybe find a use for this other sun shade that doesn't fit.
