Is it a cat? most coyote, dog tracks leave the nails in the track as well, especially in the mud like this one I found the same day.

Now the only other large cat track I have found was in florida and it was a florida panther.I think they look similar but could use some help from folks with more experience.

Thanks for the help nutz.

Im in Ancaster..about half way between Niagra and Toronto. Definately not Lynx country. After some research I'm thinkin bobcat as their tracks are about 2in long and a little wider than long.I just didn't think we had bobcats round here or in Ontario for that matter.Any of you Ontario nutz ever see a bobcat.?

Pretty big for a bobber track. I'd say domestic dog but hard to say for sure from that one track.

PBR is about the best discount beer I have found.:p

After measuring the can it would appear the track is about 2in long and that is in line with the tracking guide I looked in.I am not sure it's a dog cause of the lack of nail prints.

2" tracks like that would be inline with bobcat..... where are you located?

Pretty common for domestic dogs not to leave nail imprints if their nails are trimmed.

Thats true,,the thing that had me curious was the roundness of the track,dog/coyote are usually longer than they are wide I thought.
Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it,please keep it coming.

Oh yeah Im in Ancaster.

I'm less knowledgeable than anyone, so tagged for interest,

I thought cat too at first glance, my understanding is that dog prints tend to 'point' more.

Hey Sheephunter, It looks too round for a dog though don't ya think? My first guess was bobcat, not big enough for lynx or cougar. Looks identical to a small female leopard, just not a possibility in Ont.

I also said bobcat above... To take it farther I said that based on size and depth....

I agree with sheephunter that a domestic dog could leave such a track with trimmed nails... But I also theink the depth of track shown would indicate that said "trimmed" nails would have to be trimmed way passed the quick to make them invisible so not really feasable... Jmop

A domestic cat would hav e a track nearly half that size...

You guys are poor defectives ! He said near Niagra which is near water so........ Am I the only one who thought " Duck Billed Platypus " Laugh2

I would say Bobcat. We had a few in our area when I was a kid and to me the tracks look similar. I hear one scream one night when we were coon hunting with dogs. I think it was treed. Man that was a sound I won't forget !

FTW!! Platypus is must be!

bobcat are 2 1/4 inches wide and 22 - 26 inches apart using same paw.
Lynx is 3 1/4 - 4 1/4 inches wide and 24 - 33 inches apart, same paw.
Mountain lion or cougar are 3 1/2 to 5 inches wide and are 37 - 44 inches apart, same paw. The pad is the key to proper id.
Taylor first pic I'd say bobcat. the distance between toe and pad. the nail showing pic is canine.
Canuckchap I'd say nails = canine
