what did i do to my sks?
i replaced the reciever cover with one w/scope mount. the pin was tight going back in but i figured the the hole on the new cover was just tighter. so i go to the range and get about 30 rounds off then nothing... the bolt just flops around... like the spring is compressed or something.
any ideas...
thanks

dave, i think the spring retainer that holds the recoil spring in the guide (rod) had some how come off or the guide broke , and the spring is all twisted inside, not a biggie...... just carefully remove the top cover and gently remove the rod and the main spring from the carrier. you may have a damage spring and guide but those are easily replaced.

thanks...
the spring was fully compressed. there seemed to be paper/cardboard in the recoil spring guide (previous owner?) anyways it jammed the inner rod in the fully compressed position. plus i for got to put the blue rubber 'recoil' buffer in the rear of the cover. don't know if that made a diff.
thanks for the help.
i'll try her out on the way to work tonight.

Rule of thumb is hide the mess...ie wavy spring side inside the bolt, that way nothing catches on the inside of the receiver during use. :D

Also a trick to putting the spring retainer back on is to slide the poky pick-like cleaning tool from the tool kit up inside the hollow end of the spring guide, that way the solid rod is held out so you can compress the spring, and attach the retainer easier.

Don't make me post pics. :D

a handy tool , i also use the pick-like tool to drive out the firing pin retainer and clean the gas port.

and to think quite a few members here do not have this kit when they bot their SKS. i got mine.:D

ok stop rubbing it in!!!
is it normal for 'some one' to put something in the front of the bolt carrier for 'buffering'. cause that kinda looks like what jammed up my spring. i have a blue rubber one in the back of the reciever cover but havent heard of anything for the front of the bolt carrier.
thanks

ooooops, sorry dave , i did it again.

should not have anything (including paper/card board) impeding the forward movement of the carrier .... the blue rubber buffer for recoil is OK.

thats what i figured.
here's a dumb question for ya... the oiler i see in pics... how is it used? it seems quite large. and if so should i be very liberal with the oil after cleaning and/or during use?
thanks

Apply oil from the bottle to the rifle with finger, and rag. :D

im lazy, i try to spend the least amount of time cleaning so i use a (clean paint) brush to apply a thin film of oil.
