Do I need a 223 and a 22-250??

Just cheapie bolts for plinkin and yotes.

Got the 223, toying with a 22-250, but is it redundant???

And the "more the merrier theme" is no good.

Need?

With a .223 and a .270 I'd say no.

But generally it ain't about "need" is it... ;) :p

NAA.

I've got both & a .222! So I'd say yes... Not a big heap of difference between to the 223 & the 222 but the 22-250 has got more 'horsepower' than the other two. Is it needed? Up to you... Wally mart sells a pretty hot box of 22-250 to boot...
By the way the .222 is a bolt, the .223 is a semi & 22-250 is a falling block. Hence the need for all 3.:D

Need? No. Want? that's whole 'nother story. What sort of ranges are planning on smacking your coyotes at? That would be the deciding factor on need vs. want

yes, it would be pretty redundant. i would not buy a .22-250 if i already had a .223. the marginal difference between them is not worth buying a new gun IMHO until youve already filled the 'gaps' in your gun collection and are bored out of your mind and have nothing to spend your money on.

go for something different. i picked up a .25-06 to fill the gap between .223 and my .30 cals, but you already have the .270 for that. hmm...
you mentioned plinking, perhaps drop down to a .22wmr or .17hmr?

or as mentioned get a radically different action. for example if i had a bolt gun in .22-250 id consider getting a Ruger #1 in .223.... but two bolties in .223 and .22-250? ehh, later when you have 10+ guns :)

Got the 223 and 270 that will cover any range I might shoot at.

I WANT a 22-250 but I don't NEED one!!! I don't wanna spend the $800 riggin one up though but I wanna have one. lol..

If I already had a .223 I would look at something more 'exotic' like a .17Rem or .220Swift.

Alternatively a .243 that can do yote and deer duty and perhaps be used as a loaner/backup, for kids or friends and family who want to try shooting and hunting?

Thanks for the insight. I forgot to mention I have a 204 Ruger on TC PH as well.

Ok, so I am in an area where there is no caliber restriction so I am thinking a Marlin XL7 308. Anyone know where I can get one??

in the Remington 770 thread someone mentioned they were selling at Bass Pro in Canada for as low as $330.

The XL7 and XS7 rifle is currently selling for $330-370, at Bass Pro and from most dealers on this board.

I was in WSS, Nanaimo, on Sunday afternoon, and they were matching the Bass Pro price.
