Helped to nab a poacher today

Can't do the Time?
Dont do the Crime !
What is the context for carrying (allegedly) a loaded .357 Revolver in ones glove box after being in or near the location of an illegally shot (center fire rifle) Bull Elk in a Bow Only Zone?
jdman, when the story hits the media would you please post the link.
Rob

I don't know about the context but to me it says these guys are complete idiots.

This is one case where it appears to makes sense. How would you like federal minumums apply in a while host of undesevring scenarios unrelated to pouching? That's my point. Take att's for example lots of confusion over the new rules, do you want federal minumums enforced for such federal crimes? Careful what you wish for .. . federal minumums are full of rattle snake scenarios.

Please don't support mandatory minimums ... They mostly just snag the undesevring with no evaluation of context or common sense.

Please provide evidence of the "undeserving" being hit with a mandatory minimum for a crime committed with an illegal firearm.

What context or common sense would you suggest is the "legal" or "common sense" reason is for a poacher that just illegally killed an animal with a firearm and then fled to have a restricted firearm stored in contravention of the firearms act inside his vehicles glove-box?

You are using a straw-man argument.

No federal minimums would apply for "confusion" over the new ATT rules. If you are following the rules and do happen to be arrested due to some confusion you would still need to go to court, be convicted, and then have the sentence applied. If you were following the rules you would most likely not be charged, and even if you were, upon review of the case by the crown they'd have to proceed with the charges, and even if they did they'd need to PROVE it infront of a judge/jury.

Seriously well done! Take a bow! I, like many, have grown up with hunting and wildlife. I want to grow old hunting and enjoying the outdoors and the critters that roam around in it.

I hope the courts :kickInTheNuts: hard... I'll play the world's smallest V:I: when they do.

I mean, f:P: , a LOADED .357 in the glove box?

Great work man, keep up the awesome work.

As for the poachers.........may your lives be ruined in this country and hopefully everywhere else you go.

With a loaded handgun in the glovebox I doubt these were just poor misinformed citizens, who made a mistake....................To me it would prompt a thorough background check of these individuals and their status in this country and EXACTLY what they did for a living. Chances are there may be some interesting developments, were this done !!!!! Poaching may be the least dangerous of their activities..............

The CO told me that the last guy he caught poaching elk got a 10K fine, and 7K in lost guns.

He was giddy as a school girl when we found the bullet in tact.

That is happy news! It's nice to see poachers get nailed and nailed hard.

Curious to see updates on this in the news. Maybe it should be passed on to various news outlets so it gets the attention it deserves?

Unfortunately , our laws against poachers aren't severe enough. I have a friend who worked on a rhino sanctuary in Africa.... Poachers caught there just mysteriously disappear after a village meeting, apparently. That being said, I'm having trouble understanding what the race of the poachers has to do with anything. Comments made on this thread make me wonder how many Caucasian poachers there are for every Asian one in this country.....

Sorry, I mean no disrespect in my comment about them being Asian, but our small town has almost no Asians in it, and the usual poachers around these parts seem to be Asians from other parts of the province, or natives, who are equally as bad for it around here. My comment was meant they were on ####ty logging roads in a Toyota sienna going to load up a 1000lb elk into the back of it, lol

Good on you! I Hate to see such a beautiful animal wasted. Penalties for poaching should be harsher; it's stealing from everyone, and responsible hunters stand to lose the most. It really burns me up.

Glad you could salvage the meat and that those knob polishers will hopefully be punished to the maximum extent.

Good job on nailing these aholes; hope they get a large fine and penalty.

Only problem with listing an ethnic group is that the haters will derail your thread. Conversely it also implies that when ethnic group isn't stated the implied default is Caucasians and that is very unfair.
