Helped to nab a poacher today

Poachers are the scum of the earth....hopefully they slam their butts in jail ; and seize their vehicle and equipment.......

Problem is even if they get a big fine and loose their hunting licenses .. they only have to go to the next Province and carry on. The BCWF and others have been pushing for this to change, if you have your hunting privileges revoked, that should be for all of Canada , not jus the Province where the offense took place.

Totally agree, should apply to everyone too, even the guide outfitters that stray outside the regulations.

This was WFP, Gold River. The area was Conuma valley towards Tahsis.

Wow, way out by the conuma? I make a trip to that river every couple years with my flyrod , love that place.
Good on ya for catchin them. I know a few folks from out that way. Larry at Tuta Bay and Frank and Lucille out at the CeePeeCee site among others.
Sounds like these clowns knew how remote that area is and no doubt not their first poaching adventure.

Crucify them I say.

The shooting of a bull elk near Gold River on the west coast of Vancouver Island has led to charges against two men.

Nootka Sound RCMP and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service responded Monday to a report that a bull elk had been shot and left beside a logging road near Gold River, said RCMP Const. Ryan Walker.

The animal was intact, with no parts removed.

Police said they conducted a traffic stop after receiving a detailed description of a vehicle seen leaving the isolated area where the animal had been found.

Xiao Wu, 34, and Song Zhan, 51, face seven charges, including careless use of a firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm and unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm.

The men have been released from custody on strict conditions. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2016.

Walker said the investigation continues and additional charges under the Wildlife Act are anticipated.

Damned Italians!

I'm asking because there was headline on the news this morning about another possible poaching on VI and a white minivan was spotted leaving the area.

I don't know if this is the story you're talking about but it's really ballsy considering it was in Victoria.

Oak Bay police called after deer shot in Uplands

Oak Bay police are investigating a suspected deer shooting in the Uplands neighbourhood.

Police received a complaint after shots were heard about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Const. Rick Anthony, an Uplands resident reported seeing a white minivan with black trim and a sliding side door driving around a street where deer were gathered.

The resident then heard what sounded like gunshots and saw the deer scatter. A large buck ran into the backyard, where it struggled before disappearing.

Police said they found blood, but not the animal.

Anthony said Oak Bay Police and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service are looking into a number of offences associated with the incident — including poaching, careless use of a firearm, hunting from a vehicle and hunting in an urban area.

“There’s lots to be concerned about here,” he said, noting police do not believe the public is in any danger. “But what we don’t have are shell casings, bullets or a body. We are working with what we were given.”

Given the sound the witness reported, police believe a 22-calibre rifle was used, Anthony said.

Oak Bay police ask anyone with information to call them at 250-592-2424. Anonymous reports can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Deer have been a contentious issue in Oak Bay, which this year culled 11 deer as part of a pilot project that sparked protests. A group called Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society is working on plans to sterilize 25 does with a contraceptive vaccine.

Ya, maybe you have a point there hehehe.
At my place in canim lake I can shoot past the back fence on crown, it's just over 100M from any dwellings , but if they make it to the apple tree, I can only shoot em with a camera LOL
I will say, it is cool to see blacktails so adapted to the urban landscape. We used to call them the ghosts of the coast but not so much in Oak Bay eh? LOL

Would love to see more buck pics of these urban deer, keep em coming ;)
