Realize this will only be helpful to a select few but:
I picked a savage bolt 30/30 for my son , cleaned it up ,tried it .shot beautiful . nice trigger , removable clip, short-18" barrel , great cal. for a young guy to start out with.took it to the range 1 week before opening day - wouldn't fire.tried many different types of ammo - nothing. pin was hitting the primers but not hard enough to set them off. took it the local gun store, they scratched there heads and I took it back after 3 weeks of it just sitting there. found an old gun digest " sporting rifle take down and reassembly guide" . In the reassembly tips it says " the degree of advancement of the firing pin is controlled by twisting the cocking piece of the bolt".2 turns and its perfect.must have turned it when the bolt was out ? anyway happy ending & certainly somthing I had never heard of or seen before.
