Was wondering what people know about the Henry 30-30? I know its pricey in comparison to say a Marlin of the same caliber, as well as heavier. Wondering if anyone has had a chance to fire one or owns one? How does it compare to Levers of the same caliber? A 30-30 is next on my list to buy.

Best to be informed I say!

Henry
I find it a heavy, and it feels thick...It does however have the slickest action I have ever experienced in a 30-30.

I've not handled a Henry 30-30, so I won't comment on the rifle itself. However, as a company, Henry has an excellent reputation for customer service. Marlin's quality and customer service has been faltering for a number of years and as a result, based on anectdotal evidence from MarlinOwners, Henry is winning over past Marlin users based simply on their responsiveness and willingness to help customers.

I'm a Marlin owner and will continue to be one, so I haven't considered the Henry 30-30's myself, but if you can get your hands on a Henry and it feels good to shoulder and carry, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

I'll seconf Henry's customer service is top notch !
Sent an e-mail requesting the availability of a part for a 22 Henry....I was more then willing to pay for it if I could get it......
The next day the President of Henry  Mr Anthony Imperato replied to me that they would send me the part I needed FREE of charge ! :)

When's the last time Marlin did that for anyone ? Ever ????

Best built 30-30 ? I dunno about that but they stand behind there products 110% and that really means something if you ask me.

I do really like the Marlins, they are all I hunt with now but if I was gonna buy a brand new 30-30 I'd be thinking awful hard about that Steel Henry...and they come with XS sights too......! !!!!

Count me in as a fan of Anthony too. #####ed about the lack of accessories available for my Henry Golden Boy and I wanted a glove lever for it. Nobody in the US would ship and nobody in Canada would order one. He sent me a brand new glove lever free. Thats service! I was quite willing to pay for it and asked to but he sent it no charge.

I am a Marlin man through and through, but I do own one Henry and it's a brass octagon 30/30 ..

It weighs a lot, but the action is like butter and when you shoot it, the damn rifle just sits there begging you to crank out another.

I also owned a henry lever .22. It did not compare to the Marlin I have, but was a very, very nice gun.

Thanks for all the info. As to Henrys = garbage? I own a .22 Henry and I find it a great gun, smooth action, few moving parts, easy to clean and reliable. But every opinion is worth hearing i suppose. I do like that Henry does satnd behind its product!

I do not remember if it was the President or not, but I had the same excellent service, and without hesitation on their part I received free parts. After speaking with them, it was very clear they were going to satisfy me one way or another. You can not ask for better than that.

In all fairness your original question was moot anyways. Pretty much anything you buy these days will outlive you by a lot. Buy what you like and use the crap out of it. Your family will be fighting over it when you are dead and gone.
I just sold off a 1900 vintage Winchester never rebarrelled or likely even seen a shop. I wouldnt hesitate to take it out and hunt it. The guy that has it now is going to use it for Cowboy Action. He should have a lot of fun with the old girl.
A lot of my guns are 40-60yrs old and ALL of them shoot really well, some amazingly well. I got a Henry Golden Boy in a trade and while I never likely would have bought one for myself I had planned to sell it for the cash. Well that was the idea at the time. Never gonna be a safe queen that one. Lot of people looking for them too. Just buy what you like. The remarks you get here are often just an opinion based on one or two purchases. For the most part if a company backs up their product its a really safe purchase. Every manufacturer screws up at one time or another-thats why they have warranties. The good manufs honor them. :)
