Possibly my google-fu is broken, but I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for. I want to use this rifle for deer this year. I'm looking for accurate factory loads that might actually be available. YouTube wasn't much help. Old videos and ammunition I've never seen in Canada and I haven't found much here. What are you folks using?

Try Federal 158g JSP…….or if you can find some Buffalo Bore hard cast lead. I roll my own for hunting deer….Hornady 158g XTP Flat points. They have a small hollow point that allows the bullet to penetrate before expanding. Shot a lot of deer with this bullet.

Was shooting the Federal's today and got really decent groups. I have Blazer 158JHP that I haven't tried yet. I'll keep an eye out for the others. Thanks!

I'd probably ask this question in the hunting subforum to get more replies.

OP, I don't know your background, so apologies if this is old news: Assuming you have correct shot placement, your bullet needs to be correctly built for the game you're after and going at the right speed (not too fast, and not too slow). For factory ammunition, I guess you could legally use any JSP or HP off the shelf, but I don't have much love for any economy grade hunting ammunition. Without testing for expansion with individual types, I'd be fairly confident with any XTP round. It's a tough bullet that has a reputation for generally holding up really well to the higher velocities that you'll usually get using handgun ammunition in your rifle.

Honestly, a lack of factory ammunition options in the chamberings I use is one of the biggest reasons that I got in to reloading.

No apologies required. Always appreciate the information. I'm never too old to learn. Found a box of Hornady 357 Mag 140 gr FTX® LEVERevolution. Certainly looks like it'll work for deer. Might be in the light side for black bear. Reloading is certainly on my list of things to do.

Lucky you! Those are perfect IMO, I'd have no concern using those for deer. Probably just fine for hunting black bear, too, as long as you respect the limitations (stick to clean broadside shots within optimal range).

Leverevolution will definitely do the job if you do yours and hit em right! I use it in .44 magnum and it is a very effective round on deer.

That Hornady ammo is supposed to be good stuff . I read an article from a guy in the US who used to do a lot of handgun hunting . he said he used to shoot Deer with 160 grain SWC over 17 grains of Winchester 296. that's a Magnum powder. now look that load up before using it. he didn't say if it had a gas check on the bottom . should have . to prevent leading up the barrel . he quoted he had shot Deer at 90 yards and dropped them . with a 357 I'd keep my shots at about 50 yards Max in IMHO. if it was a 44 no problem . just shop around for a RCBS Rock Chucker single stage press. remember with Magnum powders like 295 110 etc never reduce the loads . always always follow the book specs. 357 is simple to reload. happy hunting.

LEVERevolution is deadly accurate in this rifle. One hole groups at 50 yards and no, I'm not kidding. Soon as I get the chance I'll be hand loading for some heavier projectiles. This is turning out to be over amazing rifle.
