Has anyone had a hands on with the Henry 45/70? I've been looking for reviews or more info since it was announced but I haven't seen anything new.

Does anyone have any info beyond what is in the Henry catalog? Since the current crop of Remlin's have had quality problems, I am really interested in this new lever gun.

Finding a pre 2007 Marlin is proving to be difficult, but it is an option I am keeping open. It will likely be which ever I can come across first, a used 1895 Marlin or the Henry

Those guns would be brand new this year so chances are they haven't made across the border yet. Up here some of the new guns don't make it across the border till the middle/end of the year. I know when Marlin released the 336BL I had to wait till Aug before it made it across the border to dealers up here.
Looks like a great gun from the pictures, the only fall back with Henrys are there tube loaded like a 22. So if you run out of ammo you have un screw the end of mag. to reload.

Those Turnbull rifles look amazing and as such, are out of my price range.

I don't mind the tube feed on the Henry, and if I can't put down something with 4+1 45/70 rounds, I should probably never shoot again.

I went and bought the 45-70 1895 GBL "remlin" last week with the serial starting with RM

acually its better than everyone complains about. if you have a dremel its easy to clean up the edges in the action and it now cycles great. the laminated stock is awsome looking other than the checkering is not too great BUT I feel this is due to the laminate stock being part glue and such. the blueing is acually really good deep dark and consistant. it feel solid and overall I like it alot.

all the hokey you read about on the net is not all true. but the action being a bit rough and the edges in the loading port being sharp are.

I wanted a 45-70 and started looking as well, read up on the remlins and thought id pass too, untill I held one just to see how bad it was so I could join in on the gun snobbing, and knowing what to look for I realized its not as bad as the internet know it alls preach. thought about it all week and dropped the cash on it the next weekend. I am happy.

just go look at them

Thanks Beergut, I've read some more recent posts like yours. There are some horror stories out there (Marlinowners.com has some pretty heinous stories and photos of bad rifles) but there seems to be some good rifles being sold too. I just hate having playing the lottery.

That said, I'll check them out and if I can find a good one in stock (had my cash and heart set aside for a 1895SBL) I'll be back to let you know.
