Hi all,
So i'm thinking of adding a Henry Big Boy lever gun to my herd. They are gorgeous and it would be my first lever gun.
One thing concerns me though: the receiver is made of brass. Can that withstand serious fire? I would like a rifle that lasts a life time and can endure 50 000 rounds or more.

Thanks

Gilbert

Your grandkids will be shooting the rifle... they are overbuilt and have proven to be rugged... also, as you say, they are a beautiful piece.

I'm thinking if you can afford $25 000 in ammunition, you can afford to replace an $900 rifle when it wears out.....

They look good and are very smooth but the receiver is plated brass over an alloy receiver. Imported by Inland Pacific and no warranty depot in Canada.

I had one for a couple years in 44 mag. The only ones with pot metal receivers are their rimfire models, the big boy is a solid brass receiver.

They are heavy, clunky rifles. The weak spot is the magazine tube for the 44 mag, its a very cheap stamping thats rolled and twice Ive had the little locking slot where the inner magazine tube locks into place shear apart. Henry sent me new ones each time at their cost, their warranty and customer service is excellent. I dont know how many rounds I shot through mine before I offloaded it but I loaded up an oil drilling bit box full of 44 mag and 44 special brass before I got started reloading so a few thousand rounds at least. Through that I broke 2 outer magazine tubes and a firing pin due to super hot PMC hollow points flowing into the firing pin hole and binding the tip.

I later bought a marlin cowboy in 357 magnum, far better gun. ANd if you can live without a brass receiver, anything by miroku/winchester is top shelf lever guns as well.
