I just picked up a Henry 44 mag, does any one use them for CAS shoots. I am going to try it out as the price was right. Getting myself out fitted with shootin irons I need , now just have to settle on the revolvers. I think I would like to find some old style Vaqueros in 44 mag to match the carbine or at least some sort of 44,maybe a blackhawk.
Next option would be 45 colt but I was hoping to have the carbine and revolvers match.
 
I'm not sure if the Henry Big Boy is allowed in CAS/SASS, have to check the rules. I know you cannot use factory 44 magnum ammo as it is not lead and too heavy to be used on the targets. You'll need to reload to get it down. Consider using 44 special instead. Also, with the way the blackhawk rolls in the hand when shooting, full 44 mag will tear you up pretty good. So 44 Special would be a must in that revolver. The grip shape of the Vaquero is a bit more forgiving but still might as well use the same lead load for both rifle and revolver.
 
Big Boy for CAS

One of the guys that shoots CAS with me uses a Henry in .357/.38 and it has worked well for him.
I shoot .44mag and from experience you will want to load them down. There are some safety issues with hotter 44 loads and backsplash from the steel. I have found 7.0 gr of unique under 240gr cast lead work well. I have gone as low as 6.4gr but I like a little more recoil than some. It all depends if you are going for speed or not.
 
The Big Boy is OK under SASS rules.
A member of our posse uses one.
I'm unsure if he loads .44 mag cases to .44spl velocities, with a lead bullet or uses .44spl cases.
