Hi CGN

Was out shooting last night and brought my Henry. I also brought a few odd boxes of this and that to use up. A 50 round box of thunderbolts and 2 boxes of yellow jackets as well as Winchester super x in the plastic 100 case and the 333 box.

Winchester ammo shot great. The Remington however was a little different. The lever wouldn't close all the way. We figured it was the rim somehow but the rounds would still fire and eject fine. The yellow jackets would just splatter a potatoe it was quite fun.

My concern lies in the Remington ammo and the lever being a little squishy not latching closed. I'm assuming I shouldn't shoot the stuff with the Henry and was wondering if others have seen the same issues with the Remington ammo.

Aside from that if your considering a Henry don't just buy it. It is a wonderfully accurate gun out of box. At 35 yards we hit within half an inch if you do your job with the irons. Great little gun and my favorite .22 so far!

Tried a variety of .22 ammo with my H001, and all of it, including Thunderbolts and Remington Target, functioned well.
Only differance was, that some was slightly more accurate than others.
I agree, it's an excellent gun, and lots of fun.

I don't shoot Remington ammo out of any of my guns... IME it is the worse ammo out there. My Henry's shoot pretty much everything well... I have four Henry rimfires and because they are tolerant of ammo they tend to eat all the "leftovers"... I am generally either plinking, hunting or busting clays with them... they don't ever see actual bench work... for these uses CCI Blazers are about as good as anything.

Squishy chambering suggests that the rounds are being sized to fit as they are chambered. It suggests to me that the batch of ammo was made using dies that are nearing their "end of life" due to wear.

It's no surprise to me that the rifle is shooting that well. I KNOW that mine is a far better shooter than I'll ever be. But that doesn't stop me from having a great time with it.

I'm the same way with Remington ammo, I try to keep it as far away from my guns as Possible. With mine I've found hollow points jam up if your tilting the rifle up at all, Round nose on the other hand feed and function without any issues. Cci standard velocity shoots better than I can. shooting off a pedestal rest with a rear bag it makes a ragged 3/4 hole at 50 yds. We were hitting clays at 175 yds with it while the 223 cooled off. Total spur of the moment purchase but man these rifles are sweethearts. Definitely hanging on to this one

Had it out again today for some fun, brought CCI mini mags, Winchester X, and some Remington bucket bullets. They all shot and did great, however the bucket of bullets, i found the copper 'plating' flaked off in little dusty bits and its all over the friggin place..... thanks for the dirty bucket Remington!

I'd suggest that you find and heft a Golden Boy, Frontier or other Henry rimfire with the octagonal barrel. They are quite a bit heavier than the regular rimfire barrel. And much of the weight is in the barrel. As a result I much prefer both the balance and lighter weight seen in the basic H001 model. But this is certainly and very much a YMMV situation. Which is why I'm suggesting you try a few.

Any difference in accuracy..?

I have them all.. my favorite model is the Frontier... it is heavier than the H001 but not as heavy as the GB... for my taste they got this one exactly right... it is more stable for off hand shooting, which is mostly how my levers get shot.

I am going to do the same over time, collect all the Henry lever guns, including the larger caliber models. I would love to play around with a .357 mares leg :D

The Frontier, Golden Boy and .22 mag versions are all on my horizon. Just need to find a place to sell a kidney first......
