Henry Homesteader

I cancelled a deal for a BAR last night.
Can't afford a potential paperweight.
Yep, Tho it might last a while it's a $2K+ 'bet' on longevity. I just went with a very accurate Savage and an 'old' re-built Rem 722, both in 308 bolt action. Still under $2K so far . . .
And a few 22LRs for the 0.5xx" sorta "plinking" for under 20c a shot vs $2 a shot for the 308.

I was thinking of picking one up now that we have a non-restricted option here. I read the reviews of the shorter barrel US version and they aren't flattering. I hate guns that jam more than anything. Anyone get one here and throw some rounds through it? How does it work if so?
Before I purchased mine I read that you have to use magpul glock mags and you will have zero issues. I followed that advice I’ve put 400 rounds through it of all different grain weights and brands and it has been incredibly reliable and accurate.

I'm well over 1000 rounds and had one stove pipe when it was really dirty (400-500 rounds since last cleaning). That was the only malfunction.

With Glock made mags, last round hold open often doesn't work, but it always works with Magpul mags.

Yep I was hearing nothing but issues running glock made mags. Even the guys at the store I purchased it from said don’t even bother with the glock branded stuff

I use Glock 19X magazines exclusively in 3 Homesteaders. The last round hold open works 90% of the time. But these are very, very well worn magazines so I don't expect 100% lock back from them. I've never tried Magpul mags.
I mean the Magpul mags haven’t let me down but the Henry itself (at least when I watching reviews after reviews before buying it) seemed to also be hit or miss so I’m wondering maybe the people who are having "mag problems" are actually having action problems with the rifle it’s self? Just a thought though I’m still pretty new to this.

Any semi-auto with a detachable magazine is in danger of being prohibited, at any time with no advanced warning. Just keep that in mind on any future purchases. How long will the Browning BAR stay off the prohibited list is anyone's guess.
The bar is a solid hunting type rifle. I would guess that the king's pirates won't reclassify that one too soon yet, but YMMV.

I really wish I could answer your question but I can't. I have about 40 Glock 19X (tan colour) mags that I used to use in thew Ruger PCC but now use in the Henry. I have a couple of Glock 19X pistols so I had them for dual use.

I have criticisms of the Henry but they are not magazine related. I can state 100% that I have more rounds through the Henrys than anyone else on CGN and they work pretty much 99% just great. There are better 9mm carbine platforms out there but not legal in Canada these days.
