Henry Homesteader

I have the same issue with the action bar, I was thinking of lightly filing down the action bar to fix the problem.
The only thing that is holding me back is I wonder whether those action bar are heat treated ? Filing down a heat treated part is probably NOT a good idea.
Put some grease on them when you put it back together, they come out easily next time.
Don't file anything lol

Just squit some lube in and shoot the hell out of it.

I just received my new Homesteader and 3 things I noticed:

1. With a full Magpul PMAG, the magazine is difficult to seat on a closed bolt and requires extra upward pressure to achieve positive engagement.
2. The action bars on mine were extremely tight. I had to use a punch and a non - marring hammer to remove them.
3. the rear peep sight has a lot of play.

It otherwise looks like a solid rifle. Looking forward to shooting it!

I don't know about PMAGS ..I have 2 Glock 19x pistols and 45 mags for them. They work ACE in the Homesteader. The older beat up mags won't lock back though.

Was at the range shooting my Homesteader yesterday when the gun suddenly stopped cycling. The action was binding and gritty. I took it home and disassembled it, to discover that the right action bar had snapped near where it connected to the bolt. Anyone know where I can get a replacement for this? AFAIK Grech Outdoor is no longer in business in Ontario. Wondering if this is a design flaw in the gun, or I just happened to get a bit of a lemon? Put over 500 rounds through it so far with no problems.

I had an issue with the factory rear sight on mine. You can call the number on their websight and they will take care of you. In my case they sent me an XS sight that correctly fits on the receiver, a much better sight than that crappy one they come with now with the tiny set screws. I was impressed with their effort and response…

get one right from henry they will look after you

Does anyone know if you can buy the wooden handguard with the MLOK slot (on the bronzed version) separately?

Most of the alternate handguards with MLOK seem to be either Tommy Industries (seems to be very mixed reviews on those, mostly for the fact they were resin based) or the Midwest Industries one which is $$$. I haven't seen the OEM Homesteader wood one with the single MLOK out there...I am sure it won't be cheap.

was a bit curious about the weight of the Henry vs the 35WSL with a 22" barrel
the 1905 35 WSL is a 8.5 oz difference heavier with all steel and wood and the Henry having plastic and aluminum parts and 18.6 barrel
weighed each without mag
both point nice and easy to get on target ,thought it was interesting a 110+ year old design
no point to be made ,just interesting

That happened to me as well. I requested a new set of action bars through Grech and got them about 4 weeks later. This was just earlier this year. Put the new ones in, felt a bit stiff so I put on some Mechanix gloves to save my hands and cycled the bolt about 500 times, then took it apart again, wiped down the action bars and lightly oiled them. The gun functioned just fine after that with no issues.

I tried searching various forums and haven't seen any other mention of this online, so it's presumably pretty rare.

Like others have said, you can contact Henry USA directly. They will take care of you.

John Grech still has his shop, it's in New Brunswick now.

John is a character though!.........:)

I was thinking of picking one up now that we have a non-restricted option here. I read the reviews of the shorter barrel US version and they aren't flattering. I hate guns that jam more than anything. Anyone get one here and throw some rounds through it? How does it work if so?
I have had one since December, put over 2k rounds through it and never had one jam. I use the Glock 17/19 mags and they have been fantastic. My buddy on the other hand used the factory Henry mags and had countless issues. Could not consistently get through a magazine without a jam.

Contact Henry USA, you might be pleasantly surprised.....:)

You might be better off just selling your wood/blued model, and just buy a wood/brushed bronze model......:)
That seems rather drastic...lol...though I have done stuff like that before. But the problem is the prices have increased a lot since I bought my original Homesteader.

Ya never know, I may end up getting an email from Anthony Imperato shipping me a handguard for free, as thanks for being a Henry customer in Canada (I did mention that and told them in my collection, I have more Henrys than anything else.

Nothing and no one beats the customer service of Henry USA. They are top notch.......:)

Well, Henry contacted me back and said whether it's US or Canada, those MLOK handguards are only for new production units and are not sold separately. No doubt they don't want people just buying it to upgrade their existing ones. but sell it as part of a new offering. Bummer.

If anyone was looking for the Midwest Industries M-LOK handguard for the Homesteader (product id MI-HH), it's discontinued (confirmed by MI support)... but somehow Reliable Gun in Vancouver just got a couple in stock.
