Henry Lever action 22WMR....pic heavy

looks good! I was actually going to ask in the other thread if you had upgraded the wood. I wonder if they all have that quality of wood underneath? I have a frontier model and now you got me thinking that maybe I should strip mine down.

Ya I could just barely make out the grain on this one before stripping it, it does take a while but i think its well worth it.4 coats of Tru Oil and its done, I did one extra coat because i wanted a glossy finish on this one

Cool, I'm definitely going to add this to my list of unnecessary projects....lol. I am not a fan of the solid colored wood look and was actually thinking about getting the upgraded stocks for it. As a kid I did this to a few guns but the wood was pretty blah underneath as well. Yours looks great and glad to know it wasn't just a one off as you mention the long ranger as well. It will be exciting to see what's underneath. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hey Bruce,

I used to think I was pretty good at refinishing stocks, however I think you are the master at this!.......:)

You seem to redo all your wood stocks, and they always look superb! I think you may have missed your calling....:)

Thanks John, Im retired as you know and its a fun hobby for sure, plus i hate all that crappy poly they put on guns

I use the circa 1850 heavy body paint and varnish remover NOT the circa 1850 super desolver , watch because the cans look the same and the desolver doesnt work, apply the 1850 heavy body paint and varnish remover let sit for 10 minutes or so then use an 3m scrub pad to remove the poly, 3-4 times , then work in danish walnut oil with 600 grit wet and dry paper, let dry for a few days, then apply tru oil until you get the finish you like, more coats= glossy, less coats for a mat finish, good luck, its fun
