Henry Lever action rimfire .22

I bought 2 Henry .22LR. One for me and one for my father. They are currently both returned to the dealer because both of the guns had defective sights and even a gunsmith couldn't adjust them. Also both they both had finish problems near the hammer.

I waiting the final ruling, but I will probably go for a different brand for a lever action rimfire once they dealer decides what to do with it.

I guess if you go Henry, got for the higher end of their rifle and not the entry level models.

I hope it helps!

I'm considering the Octagon .22, or the golden boy.
What exactly can be hunted with a .22LR, I don't think it would be big enough for coyotes.

Some people get the .22 WSM. We had a Marlin on the farm, in that calibre, Model 36A would be an excellent choice. I would opt for a used Marlin, you won't loose money.

The magnum would be nice, but for what it would be used for, it would be a bit much, I'm still looking.. If you know anyone with a used Marlin .22 lever, I'd definitely entertain it.
Buying a new Marlin really isn't worth the difference, on the website I check is almost $200 more than the octagon Henry with the .22 magnum..

Can anybody tell me what caliber the original lever actions were ... ?

...

The Henry rifle used copper (later brass) rimfire cartridges with a 216 grain (14 g) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g) of gunpowder. (first ones made)
The Henry rifle used a .44 caliber cartridge with 26 to 28 grains (1.7 to 1.8 g) of black powder.

After doing a bunch of research, I finally ordered the Octagon barrel .22 LR (Frontier version)
So, I should get it in about a week or two, I'll post what I think!

Nice, the octagon barrels look great on levers......if they ever come out with a frontier model mare's leg with the octagon barrel I will be tempted for sure....

The first significant lever action cartridge was the .44 Henry rimfire, produced in 1860 for the Henry rifle, and later continued in the first Winchesters. Horace Smith had produced .25 and .32 caliber ball cartridges a few years earlier, in 1855, but they proved to be underpowered.

Sorry to continually bring this back, but I think it's better than new topics..

So, since new Henry didn't use the original design from the late 19th century, where did the design for this rifle come from?
