My local store has a lovely Henry Evil Roy in .22 mag, a cartridge I've never given much thought to. I'll mainly be using it for plinking so is there any advantage to it over regular .22 lr? They can order one for me in .22 lr but the .22 mag is taunting me from the display shelf. Instant gratification and all that.

Merry Christmas.
I have the .22 LR (Don't forget that it can also take 21 .22 shorts.)
.22 magnum is not readily available.

22 mag has been priced higher and higher lately. I've paying $20/50 a. It hard to find locally at that. Still love it for ambushing coyotes on creeks but this 50-60 degree whether isn't helping with that

This ^^^^. I love my .22 mag, but it's not for plinking anymore, just hunting, with the prices on the ammo lately (when you can actually find some...).

How much they asking? I want a henry octagon barrel or golden boy. Never knew a silver was available in 22 mag.

If you go with the 22 mag make sure you can find ammo for it.

We have been out for months - back ordered.

The Hornady rep told me that CCI makes all the 22 mag for CCI, Federal and Hornady.

He went on to say that they (CCI) won't even take any more back orders at this point because the current list has 60 million boxes on it.

He said "maybe" the latter half of 2016 things might start to ship.

Then you have to consider the "Hillary Clinton" factor - as it gets closer to the US election, if it looks like she is going to win it, the guys south of the border will start hoarding again and the US is always going to get "first dibs" on anything that comes out of the ammo factory.

So just make sure you don't end up with a very nice, very pretty "decoration" that you can't find ammo for if you go with the Mag.

One question for anyone that has one. Why no loading gate? Looks like the old fashioned Cooley pull-out-the-whole-follower setup?

Almost, but not quite. The tube is slotted for loading, so you don't have to take the follower right out of the tube, just to where it clears the slot.
