Hey guys; wondering if anyone has seen one of the new Henry lever guns in 30-30 or 45-70. Here is a link

Not a traditional finish on metal work or the stock but interesting. What do you think? Also Henry owners out there how do you like your Henry lever guns??

I have had the opportunity to handle one of the new Henry rifles in .45-70, they look nice and cycle very nicely with no cartridges in them. Every video I've seen where they are shot or reviewed, they look a little clunky when cycling with live rounds, so far no one would let me run snap caps through them in the store, so I can't say personally how they run with cartridges. Even so being a little clunky isn't a huge deal for hunting, it may even smooth out after a little use, but they only load from the muzzle like a .22, and that's a deal breaker for me. You may be better served by a Marlin 1895, pricing is similar, if not a little cheaper, but it's a proven action and they're built solidly. To each their own though, everyone I know that has a Henry loves it.

Henry has "clunky" actions?

That is funny... every Henry I have owned has been among the smoothest lever actions I have fired... and I don't see why these new ones would be any different.

As I said, when I've handled them in the gun shop, they seem nice and slick with no cartridges. The few videos I've seen of them being shot or reviewed, there seems to be some resistance when cocking the lever to load a round. I know generally the Henry's are very nice, smooth guns, the rimfires for sure and the pistol calibers seem smooth if not run too fast. This is the rifle caliber action we are talking about and a fairly new product for Henry. Wouldn't be surprised if it took a couple hundred rounds or so to work it in like most lever guns. Not trying to disparage anybodies favorite, just my opinion based on my experience and observations.

They are not a personal favorite, I would choose 94's and 85's... but one feature I appreciate is how smooth the actions cycle... and that includes rimfire GB's and Frontiers and Big Boys as well as the .45/70's.

I have handled a blued 30-30 before and the fit and finish was top notch. The prices have sure jumped in the last few years though.

I have a Frontier in .22LR and a Big Boy Steel in .357mag, and they're VERY smooth rifles.

The loading method is a little unusual, sure... and it doesn't matter. Basically, you load it the way you'd load a muzzle loader. Side loading gates are only really useful to soldiers shooting prone.

With 15 rounds of .22LR or 10 rounds of .357mag in the tube, I'm not ever going to be unable to stop and take a comfortable position to reload. The .45-70 only holds 4 rounds, but if you can't bring something down in 4 shots of .45-70 (or 5 shots of .30-30)... you were hunting Godzilla anyhow and you're dead. :)

25/20 and 25/35 I'd be sold

However I was looking at some YouTube video of these guns and I'm really liking them. I was planning to build a 458x2" but after several reviews I'm going to hold off and try one of these Henrys. I love the 45/70. The wood and blue 3030 looks damn good to with the straight stock

I have a Henry .22 Also a 45/70 and just bought one of the new Big Boy 44 mag steel carbines. To me they are superior to the Marlins and the Marlins I own are JM

I agree... and if I wasn't so attached to 94's for purely historical reasons (grandfather, father and myself all started and hunted many years with 94's)... I would choose a Henry over Marlin or Win... I don't know what they did mechanically to make the actions cycle that smooth, but they glide like a yearling buck on wet ice.

I'm searching for scope mounts for a second generation .357 Big Boy and Henry won't ship to Canada. Anybody know of a Canadian source? Henry directed me to have them bought in through a dealer and North Sylva but that's not my preferred route.

I know scopes and lever guns don't go together but eyesight needs a boost.
