Henry Mare's Leg .44 Mag with full length stock

Mine was just under $200 including shipping. But I've seem to have misplaced the rifle while checking my trail cams...

nice, but I still see it, lol.

This is one of those times that you really laugh at how comical some gun laws are.

I looked at doing the same thing, but contacted Henry in the US to buy the stock, and they wouldn't sell it to me because of American laws on short-barreled rifles. There was a massive amount of red tape to get around, fees, a waiting list, etc.

So you can buy a handgun no problem in the US, you can buy the Mare's Leg no problem, and you can buy a rifle no problem in the US, but they'll be damned if you're going to buy a short rifle in the US.

So yes, we have some very dumb laws in Canada, but imagine being in the US and being able to buy a handgun without any problem, but not being able to buy a stock because it will make your Mare's Leg longer.

Deer season is over and she was perfect in the treestand and still hunting on my property. Finally made up some handloads to see what she is capable of because I was getting 2" - 3" groups at 100 yards with the factory Hornady Leverevolution 225gr FTX. Loaded up some 240gr CamPro TMJ TC over 8gr of W231. I'll be plinking with the W231 for a bit but come 2017 bear and deer season I'll have to change up on the powder and cast bullets.

I just love the 12" barrel on this rifle.

60 yards, 5 shot group.

For me I don't have that strength to hold it arms length one handed for a long enough time for an accurate shot but it can be done. It's front end heavy because of the octagon barrel but there is very minimal recoil felt. Shoot 44spl and it's like shooting 22LR.

Experimenting with IMR 4227 powder starting with 22gr to 23.5gr under a CamPro 240gr TMJ TC. A perfect day with no wind and -4*C. Looks like the best load is with 22.5gr of IMR 4227 at 50 yards... 1/2" group. Powder was individually weighted with a RCBS scale. Bullets not weighted.

Will have to shoot over a Chrony next time.
