henry mini bolt-how accurate?

I hunt grouse with a single shot Cooey that was made in the 70s. It was bought from an old man that had it beating around in his farm pickup. It took a while and a few boxes of shells to "zero" the gun in, but it is the most reliable grouse - vermin hunter I have.

I looked in the catalogue from SIR and it states that there is available the scope base but the receiver has to be drilled for the mount. therefore I take it is not grooved.

I am basically thinking of getting one for my kid-but being as it is only about 3 1/2 lb,it would be viable to carry as a back packer for grouse while deer hunting

Have you ever handled one? Man they are SMALL! Almost too small...

Pros: It looks good, nice finish. Decent sights. Very small.

Cons: No feed ramp, you have to manually place the cartridge into the chamber then close the bolt. The bolt lock up is pretty loose. Not grooved or drilled/tapped; you have to buy a separate cantilever style mount.

I'm sure they are decent lil guns, but it was a little too "Meh" for me, and for the price. I ended up getting a pair of marlin 915Y's. The 915YS is an excellent gun. Very accurate, nice fiber optic sights. It's a tad bigger though.

Henry mini bolt

Good youth starter gun......I like the fact that you have to #### the rifle after the action is closed...good safety feature....and good sights.....a great grouse gun...

Have a Henry Mini Bolt. Purchased primarily for my grandson, but both my wife and I love to shoot this nifty little rifle.
It was designed as a 'youth rifle' and weighs just over 3 lbs. The design is excellent for the intended purpose and is fun to shoot for adults.
Rear bolt lock up. The lock up is completely tight after the action has been cocked by the cocking piece.
Accuracy is fine, especially given the light weight and short barrel (16.5"). Trigger as good as one could expect on anything less than a target grade rifle (considerably better than an out of the box 10/22). I have not bench tested it for accuracy, but there have been no bad surprises shooting it at paper, balloons, and silhouettes at 15 m to 25 m standing.
The fibre optic sights are great, especially for new shooters.
To mount a scope you can get a base which Henry makes particularly for this rifle. I recommend the Mini Bolt - very nice little rifle. Check out the owners' letters on the Henry website.

if we were allowed to carry 22 handguns in Canada,I'd use that for potting grouse-but the weight and diminutive size are a plus for carrying slung on your back when deer hunting

Grouse hunting in Manitoba ends the last day before deer season opens And I would not get caught with 2 guns during deer season, I am only mentioning the rules for manitoba, other provinces may vary.

Yikesssss....I would not want to be out in the woods shooting grouse while others are looking for deer. I know about the hunters orange etc. but to disturb a site that is occupied by a deer hunter???????? Some would not so kindly on that activity. Not all of the hunters around are as courteous as they rightly should be.

The typical situation here is you are out deer hunting-walking down a FS road-and see a grouse, and having a light weight 22 slung on your back means you can pot the grouse. The other is you are driving down a FS road on the way to look for a deer-or moose-and see a grouse in the ditch.Having a 22 along means dinner.
