Well after about 5000 bb's through the Red Ryder this summer I think tomorrow it's time to order a .22 for my kid. I think I've got it down between the Henry mini or the Marlin 915YS. I like the Herny because it's a pound lighter and a couple inches shorter but the Marlin is drilled/grooved for a scope. Though I think it's important for him to shoot for awhile with open sights to learn proper hold and form, I know that after awhile he'll want to be like dad a have a scope. On the Henry web site or anywhere else there is not mention of the Mini being able to take a scope but on the Henry web site there is also a picture of one with a scope mounted. Just wondering if anyone knows if they are factor drilled and taped or have a rail?
Thanks for any input on either of these guns or any of the other small .22's, Savage Cub etc.

I was also looking at the Mini bolt .22 for my daughter. Frontier has them for $200 which I think is a pretty good price. Overall length is 30.25, I do not remember seeing anything else that small. As for a scope set up, I found this

Well I ordered a Henry Mini from Frontier today. My kid was just viberating when i was on the phone ordering it. gonna be a long few days until it gets here for him. With the Cantelever mount a scope can be put on. Someday when I think he's ready I'll order one. After both boys have out grown it I think it might be a neat toy for myself with a red dot type of scope. Nice little gun to carry on the quad.

They are great little guns, you will like it for your self. I bought my friends stepdad one to pack along on his trap line. The fiber optics sites are nice as well.
