I looked at a new Marlin and it was over $500, WOW, then I see the Henry H001 plain jane is under $300.
So that/s where I'm leaning towards, don't need anything fancy.
I have an old Cooey "Ace" that was called a rabbit gun, had it forever, also have 3 other Cooeys, a 39, a 60 and a 600. Almost forgot, I have a Marlin 60

Talk slow, think fast.

my lever henry was amazing smooth. fun to shoot. i regret tradeing it. mine was the octagon barrel. If i get another one is will be the regular barrel. little front heavey IMO

I have LR's in the H001 (what you are calling plain jane), H001T and H004 GB, plus a maggie in H001TM... and two Big Boys in .357 and .44 Mag... I guess you can say that I'm a fan... they are well made and buttery smooth... I would not regret buying one.

Mine puts 5 rounds of the AE 40grn lead roundnose into one clean hole at 25 yards, most "shootable" gun I've ever owned everything about it just feels perfect, just about to order the skinner peeps sights for her too :D

Just make sure it doesn`t have that huge huge 5 lbs glob on the front that others call a "front sight". Both my 1977 Winny 9422 and 1958 Marlin 39A have this issue. If buying new, see if they will give you any deals on a better sight.

I don't currently own a Henry. I have shot a few that belong to friends. I have never seen a failure or any other issue with one. My experience is that Henry makes a fine firearm. They are well engineered, fabricated to tight tolerance and of extremely high quality materials. You cannot go wrong with a Henry. There is a reason why few are for sale in EE

X2 first thing I did after I got it home was to carefully take a file to the front sight and thin it down to a slim little peg then hit it with some blaze orange paint to make the thinner post a little more visable.

I have the h001t, the heavy barrel version, but the action is the same. You couldn't give me enough for it, I will hand it down to number one son for sure.

Is that the octogon version, does it make it front heavy.. I tried a friends Winchester it was a thing of beauty..perfect balance
