Tangs, who wadda thunk they were so damn sensitive!! Tried to make my mares leg into something a tad more useful in the bush and made a Jam'O'Matic out of the poor thing. Every time the bolt coming back would catch the top of the hammer and lock everything up.

I measured between stocks and there was a .1 difference with the new stock spreading the receiver tangs a wee bit causing the bolt to catch the top of the hammer. Some chisel and dremel work and all good, but even then - just the slightest out of parallel with the tangs on the stock and the rifle would jam.

Looking at the stock now, I see that I will have to shape the entire front end properly so that the top tang resides properly but at least I know that I'm not crazy..... ier or something ;)

Now to refinish everything.....

Very interesting! I've been thinking about this for sometime, glad to see great ideas in action. Whats the full stock from? I take it not a Henry?

You're trying to build exactly the Henry I want; I'll be watching this thread like a hawk.

How does pressing the top tang up slightly affect the hammer/bolt relationship? The hammer is somehow moved upwards slightly as well? I'm getting frustrated and it's not even my gun!:)

Looks good especially the non brass butt pad but a full length stock from Henry is not that expensive. Call Henry directly and order the stock. I just ordered a standard lever to replace the large loop and for me made a big difference how fast I can work the lever over the large loop.

Check out my old thread I started with my 44 mag mare's leg.
