New Henry showed up yesterday. I'm not huge lever action fan but I'm a sucker for an AR mag fed .223. I don't know how many .223 rifles I have but it's somewhere around 25 or 30. I think it's a great cartridge in many aspects.

All mags tested were 10 round pistol magazines. I didn't even try the 5/10 pinned magazine that was supplied but I assume it works fine

left to right

MFT Works fine, easy insertion
Cross Mag works fine, easy insertion
RRA Works fine, easy insertion
Corwin Arms Shiny special- tight insertion and removal. But that's the same with these mags in every other gun

Once inserted all mags ran fine

Not a fan of the supplied iron sights but I'm pretty picky about iron sights in general now that I have 50 years + eyeballs. The front sight on my Henry Homesteaders basically fell off and this sight looks the same so I would suggest removing front sight, applying loctite and go from there. I'm going to drop a red dot on it.

This is sort of modern ranch rifle for folks that like lever guns. I'm not going to put a scope on it or do accuracy tests as I am sure that has been covered in a Youtube video.

The action -right out of the box- was as slick or better than any lever action I've used, including custom gunsmith worked lever actions. It feeds ammo "like greased sausages" as Jack Belk liked to say.

Overall- it's a Henry. If you like Henry lever guns you know what you are getting. It doesn't feel remarkably different than a Henry 30-30 etc but the mag makes a difference so you don't have to single feed rounds into tube. I don't know if there is a market for it but a similar rifle in .308 using AR10 mags might be cool.

Sounds like this will be the next gun on my shopping list :) (Or .... a magfed pump in 223)

Recently got myself a Henry in 357 and like it a lot and think they are very well made and run smooth.
