Henry Vs Winchester, who do you prefer for a modern lever rifle?

Is everyone saying "Winchester" due to nostalgia or is there actually reasons quality wise to pick a Winchester over one of the new Henry's? I have owned a couple of Winchester 94's over the years and although they were pretty smooth, they were what they were - mediocre accuracy but nice handling. The Henry's that I have handled have seemed to be very tight with somewhat nice lumber on them. The new Winchesters have safeties which would negate them automatically in my mind, but like I said, I don't currently own one.

My experience with my Henry H010 45-70 blued steel carbine is very positive. It's leagues ahead of the Marlin 1895 45-70 stainless guide gun I owned 8 years ago, which had several serious deficiencies. The Henry has very nice wood, excellent fitment, is very accurate, easy to operate and problem free. It's a solid, dependable hunting rifle. I couldn't care less about "tuned" cowboy action guns. I'm sure Japanese-made Winchesters are fine rifles, but I have no reason to part with my Henry to buy one. While I prefer bolt guns, the Henry has surprized me, and for ~$1500, they're comparatively good value.

Yes. The long running and admitted tube magazine failures that Henry Big Boy Steel rifles have. Even the `redesigned`tube magazine notch has issues. Why Henry won`t just get rid of that silly magazine rod and just seal up the top even with their side gate loaders is beyond me.

Fit and finish could be a personal choice, but here Winchester wins again.

The redesigned mag notch is faultless. Having the rod actually allows for fast unloading. I never used the catchy side gate on my previous Marlin to top-up ever, and in 45-70, it's not needed. 4 in the tube and one in the chamber is plenty. The tube system is desirable to me, and if I run dry, single loading directly into the loading port is easy.

With me , it's just cosmetics . The Henrys are well made rifles , they just don't appeal to me visually . Weak , I know , but I just can't warm up to them .

I prefer Henrys because of a more affordable price point and I don't have to take it to a gunsmith to have sling swivels added. But both are well made and reliable.
