hep me pick a .22

Don't get the 795! They are boring cause at 25yrds it will shoot a ragged one hole. At least that's what my 981T will do if I do my part.
BTW....the tube will hold 15rnds of .22lr. Something to consider if you want "high" capacity (and mo mags to buy) but its a bolt.

True story! my model 60 shoots consistant 9/16-1/2" groups at 50 m with the odd flyer i blame on ammo variation. Which is exactly what my accurized bolt action 925 could do. not bad for a semi!

Does anyone know if there is a high(er) capacity mag for the 795

As was previously stated, shooters ridge makes a 25 rounder but it really sucks! jams constantly. Nutinfancy reviews it in that video Tpwnsteak posted.

The 10 round mags from marlin are at this time the highest capacity reliable mags for the 795. I know this for a fact, and you can take my word for it... im a marlin junkie! Did you check out nutn's video review?

And congrats on the new gun... im looking forward to reading your review after testing it out.

Had it out tonight (wasn't planning on going until the weekend but got a text from my wife asking if she could watch me shoot tonight).

Overall, I am very impressed with it. I was shooting from about 30 yards and consistently picking off cans (normal sized and redbull sized cans). I found I was shooting low a lot but I think that's the shooter not the gun. Pretty much all my cans were hit in the bottom inch so I'm guessing once I fix that it will be a lot more accurate. I shot about 100 rounds varying from single shots with lots of time in between to short bursts to unloading the 10 round mag as quick as possible. I did not have a single issue or stoppage. For what I want, I think I have the perfect gun.

My only question is, my wife is now expressing some interest in shooting after her pregnancy (shes 30 weeks) but I have a feeling she will have issues with the iron sights. Is there any tricks/tips or should I look at another gun with scope or sight on it, or put a red dot on mine. I can't see my wife getting serious into shooting but I would like it to be fun and easy as possible for when she does want to try.

oh, and here's a short video

If you're wife is showing interest... PLEASE don't ignore her... and please, buy something SHE likes.

From personal experience, they like guns that are
- Pleasant to look at (from their point of view)
- Reliable (they're not gun mechanic)
- Accurate (Have yet to meet a women who doesn't focus on accuracy)

If it can make it easier for her, by all means, put a nice little scope on the thing... and she'll surprise you.

I was looking at maybe getting a laser sight for her to learn with for the first little bit (on my gun) and then go from there. I doubt she will become a gun nut but I plan on supporting her as far as she wants to go and ensure it stays fun.

I picked up a 795 a few weeks ago as well. $140+10% discount. Plus there is also a $25 mail in rebate offer going right now. So after taxes and everything ill have paid less than $120 for this rifle. You cant find a better deal than that for a brand new rifle.

Sup frump... Perfect excuse to buy another one! the grooves in the receiver will accept 3/8" scope rings if you want to put one on. I'd recommend weaver rings for a 3/8" base and a 1" tube. thats whats on my papoose, and i dont know where i got them from to be honest... I haven't seen these type before.

Glad to see you settled on your new gun and your happy with it but I figured I'd jump in and add some input about the high cap mags, stay away from the Shooters Ridge plastic crap, like others have said they are junk, I bought a 25 round Shooters Ridge and used it once (or should say tried to use it) the rounds jammed in it from the very beginning, I took it out of the gun five or six times just to get through one mag full, it cracked in three places and didn't fit the gun properly, so do yourself a favor and save your money or just get a couple extra ten round mags.

Just thought I would give an update on this. I went out and was hitting an 8" gong at 100m meters and went back to 200m and got a few hits with a lot of shots and that was with iron sights.

I'm hoping to get out this weekend and try 200m again and maybe 300m with a 3x9 scope
