About three years ago I got my girlfriend into .22 plinking at the range, and about two years ago she got interested in gopher shooting which didn't take her long to really enjoy.
So this spring I asked her what she likes in a rifle and secretly had bill leeper build it for her (she's 5'2" with short arms nothing off the shelf would really work)
She got her either ### mule deer tags in the mail this fall and the rifle showed up just in time. After three days of walking the hills and glassing the brush we managed to spot and stalk this guy. got her to 100 yards and she did the rest, one shot a few steps and he fell over. I sent her to the truck for the camera and to get it a little closer while I draged it out. When I got there I found her standing beside the truck, she said she couldn't drive she was so excited she felt like she was gonna pass out. I don't know if she has calmed down yet. She's already bought her white-tail tags and I am pretty sure she's hooked.

I wish I could of told a longer story but I am in a rush and just thought I would share a quick one with fellow gun nutz.

Special thanks to bill leeper who put together a heck of a nice rifle. I was worried about recoil because she had a collerbone injury as a kid that didn't heal right and is recoil sensitive. But when she was practicing the grin was from ear to ear and she said she didn't feel a thing. (showing that a properly fit rifle is the most important thing in felt recoil)

Stats for the nutz
Remington model Seven (trued lapped ect.)
2.5# trigger
Boyds thumbhole stock cut to 12.5 LOP slimmed down in the grip and forend for smaller hands and a decelorator installed
McGowan 22" fluted barrel chambered in .260 Rem
Talley one piece rings and bases
Leupold VariX-3 2.5-8x36mm

Perfect balance, weight, and fit for her.

Lucky for us we shoot better than we take photo's

Thanks for reading

And heres my Antelope from this year. I only had 2 days to hunt and Iam a meat hunter so the priority was just to get one, but I also enjoy when I get a chance at a trophy. I found antelope the most difficult animal to judge in the field. I can usually call the score of a mule deer or a white-tail on the hoof and be close but I was lost with antelope. It was the afternoon of the first day and we spotted a group that was in an area that we felt we could stalk. We got to 300 yards and I sat down with my sticks. I had a good shot so I let one fly out of the .25-06 and it took the rug right out from his feet (dad was watching through binoculars and chuckled) on the way up to him it was the first time I expierienced ground growing :D He kept getting bigger and bigger. When I got him home I got him measured up by a local guy and it was 76 with two inches of deductions to come out to 74 each side was 15" not bad for thinking I shot a meat buck.

So theres another quick poor atemp at a story. He looks small in the photo but thats because I didn't stand behind him and Iam 6'6" 300lbs.

Thanks again

Jason

That's a great story. Good on you for getting a smart deer-calibre rifle custom made to fit your wife.

Yes, you better ask that girl to marry you.
