Her Mossberg 715t Flat top is a Dirty Harlot

A friend of mine picked one of these up because he couldn't resist the tacticool look and the low price tag... as he is not very mechanically "inclined" I am the one that got to clean it, what a gigantic pain in the ass. With my 10/22 its a 5 minute job tops... this thing was absolutely insane. He shoots CCI blazers out of it as they're the only thing that will cycle... loading the mag is a giant pain in the ass and he's also experienced the bolt stick on first load issue. It's not even my gun and I'm getting stressed out thinking about cleaning it again! It also fails to fails to feed or eject one out of every 15 to 20 rounds I think. I'm sure it's happened with the ruger but not enough times for me to remember it ever occuring.

You should definitely pick up a 10/22 and new stock or the sr 22 and retire that thing, having care free gear makes a world of difference when it comes to new shooters I think. Who wants to keep shooting if they think it's the norm for guns to need that much maintenance? Especially with a .22!
 
I run mine with white winter grease its nice and light and stays in place. Doing this got rid of the issue with the first round and I've got about 600-700 rounds through with no failures. Only cleaned when I got it and 1 time after a 525 pack of federal through it.
 
How r the archangel kits to clean on a 10/22 i thought they were a clam shell plastic cover held together with screws is it faster to take apart i was thinkin of gettin one someday ....
 
Well... No news on the mossberg yet still out for warranty... I did manage to score a SR22 from P&D this morning.

Gotta hand it to them sent the order in around 11am and before noon I had a tracking number. What's really awesome is that Canada post says delivery Friday, looks like we are going to get some long awaited range time this weekend. (haven't been able to drag her out since the mossberg went back)

Let us know how long and what they did to your 715 how it works etc good one with the sr 22 buddy has one with match barrel tricked out its pretty sweet....
 
Reading this thread made me a tad nervous so I grabbed my 715t and had a really good look at her. I couldn't believe the leading in the flash suppressor. I wish I had a scale because I'm sure there was at least 30 grains in there. Next is a tear down and good cleaning.
 
Just an update,

11 weeks into the "6-8 weeks" still no word, called the store that sent it back seems it may be MIA... They are trying to track it down... I'm going to call the warranty people directly tomorrow to confirm that they actually got it and if they have it.

I concur with Zezty.....Froglube works great. I put 1500 rounds through mine since I got it, and have only had 2 FTE's. I did, however, take all my mags apart and remove all ejection marks and mold separation lines, followed up with lube. They work great now.
 
Save yourself a lot of money + time, I went to the local hardware store and bought oil for the airguns the framers use. Never looked back its light ,clean + way cheaper. stuff I got was for a Hilti gun.I have a Remington 597 shooting almost perfectly with bulk ammo and that's saying something,although I did swap extractor /trigger group to Volquartson.

Amen... Picked up a SR22 & for a while we had totally forgotten about the 715t out for warranty. We where looking at the spare trigger lock going where did that come from.... Ohh yeah.... Maybe we should call and see what's up?
 
I have a Carry Handle 715t. I run Remington Yellow Jacket with little or no jams per hundred rounds. I file all of the followers on my mags it helps tremendously. For cleaning i use Rem Oil and a snake.
I wish takedown of this weapon was quicker, but what can you do, Its a mossberg thing.
 
I too recently purchased a 715 T and quickly found it to be a jam o matic.
I have since fixed the problem.
Google 715T feeding problems and see all the posts on it and the fix's .
Some are useful while some are snake oil.
The main reason is due to a bad batch of mags that Mossberg out sourced.
I did find the Win 555 ammo was a bit fussier than others .
I sanded the sharp edges on the red follower's base.
Removed the molding seams on the black follower.
Now i can load mag by holding down black follower and putting all 25 rounds in without using the loading tool.
Consistently smooth through the whole loading process.
The tool works but is slow.

good tip on the mags leadslinger! did a lot of side by side comparison this weekend on 2 715's, mine is running the 10 round mag and my buddies the 25, his 25 where the bullet feeds in/out of the front of the mag is cut MUCH deeper than my 10 round, which from what i can tell is the reason behind many of the jams he was getting with his 25 round one while i experienced non with my 10 round. i just ordered 2 25 round mags from cabelas that should be in today, so i will have a look, and play around with them and try out some of your suggestions.

As per the leading in the flash suppressor that seems to be common between them, mine is a little worse but i chip it out with little effort. i find if i oil the crap out of it, it doesnt build up as fast. had a good chance to shoot at 100 yards + with mine this weekend, with a better scope i think it would be pretty fun.

PS those hand loaders they come with are crap... might machine 1 up out of aluminum to make it easier.

Overall other than the cleaning of these guns i'm pretty happy with it.

I started to oil the flash hider with CLP , and it doesn't crud up as fast.
Personally i don't think it's lead, but powder residue, hence why oiling softens it up.
It's good that you had a different mag to compare yours with otherwise it's trial and error.
When the gun runs great it's super cool and extremely accurate .

Next time you are out with buddy again shooting,
take a nice close up pic of both mags showing the different cut outs.

I've wondered all along if there was an issue such as a bad batch of mags.
It seemed that the user reviews were just so divided...those whose guns were a constant nightmare vs those like myself. I've probably got close to 10K roounds through mine. It's been torn down once (when new), otherwise I just liberally spray the action with solvent/lube after every range session and it has been at least a couple of thousand rounds without any misfires whatsoever.
I guess I just lucked out on the mags.
 
i just got the 2 mags in, will take a pic and upload it in a min. but another thing i noticed with the 25 round mag is that after you load in 10 rounds, it goes from a nice alternating pattern IE bullets are stacked side to side nicely to straight up and down for the rest, and after you load the first 10 it gets very stiff to load, i'm thinking of taking it apart and relieving one of them a bit to loosen up the bullets inside. VERY sloppy design, very unimpressed with the 25 round mags so far.
 
10 round on the left, 25 round on the right, you can see the difference in the cut where the bullet feeds through, on the 10 round it is impossible for it to get hung up by feeding to low

Big difference in the two.
Mine that came with the gun is like the one on the right.
