Hera Arms

I bought a bunch of hera arms stuff from ARMSEAST (site sponsor) a while back. I did their SL8->G36 mod and it was wicked. The machining was right on with zip for slop.

cheers,

Did they tell you why?

Too much of a PITA to deal with the company and for what you're paying for; the quality is not up to par.

The shipment of barrels they got didn't have gas ports drilled in them.... so they had to send em out to a gunsmith and have all the gas ports drilled properly. Their response was "You had to specify gas port size when ordering!".....

The finish on the upper/lowers sucks and they have had to send some of them out to Arma-Coat to have them re-finished because the 'paint' was flaking off. (Arma-Coat did an awesome job though, as usual)

The tolerances on the upper/lowers are so tight that they don't always drop in with regular mil-spec parts, things like mag catches won't install in without 'fitting'...

The only things I can speak highly of are the conversion kits, although they are not without their faults too (some poor quality hardware - nuts and bolts etc...)

For an AR15 build there are better things out there, I can DEFINITELY say I'd rather go with a Rainier Arms billet upper/lower combo (One Shot carries them) rather than a HERA one!

Good thing I am not looking for AR parts

That's really too bad as I know that Epoxy7 had no complaints at all IIRC on his Hera lower he purchased a year and half ago (or so) for his ADCOR B.E.A.R Elite build.

Exactly what I was told a few weeks ago.

My upper/lower combo has been great! Fit and finish has been excellent with no issues with any of the part compatibility. The coating/finish has been extrememly durable as well. The only thing that required fitting was my Samson rail. The anti rotation tab had to be filed a bit to fit over the billet upper as it was a couple thou wider. Maybe the newer stuff has had some quality issues, but I got mine 3 years ago and couldnt be happier. Granted for a complete upper lower assembly it was $1100. You can put a Rainier together for less than that and get Ni-Bor BCG and go with a Giesselle and be pretty close to the same. Likely what I would have done in hindsight, but they werent available back then.

Definitely the older stuff is what they made their name off of! Before they were an in-demand company; making a dozen parts at a time.

The stuff my old job had issues with was some of the newer batches.

FWIW the fit between the upper/lower (even the newest ones) on the HERA Arms stuff was absolutely phenomenal. Zero wiggle at ALL, and not difficult to take apart. Super tight tolerances. But I had issues with things like mag catches, charging handles, forward assists, etc.....

With some uppers/lowers the parts seemed to drop in just fine, and some they were a PITA to get to work. Could have been the finish though, the Tan ones seemed to be cera-coated or something similar, whereas the black guys I think were standard mil-spec anodized.

I think they're just rushing through production and QC has gone down, which sucks because I've seen what those guys ARE capable of, and it's awesome.

I have a Hera BCK Gen 2 on my HK SL8 and a Hera Arms FSC on my wife's HK USC. Both are excellent in quality but expensive. I think the BCK is about $485 and the FSC was about $700. You can get Hear Arms products through any company who deals with Gravel Agency the Hera Arms distributor in Canada. I would suggest Milarm or Wolverine.

Hey Guys,

We have had a few issues dealing with HERA Arms and have decided to move in a different direction. They do make excellent products but it just isn't a good business fit for us. We've decided to focus on North American made AR-15s and components.
