I am prototyping a simple, inexpensive alternative to the HERA made from aluminum tube [ rectangular, rounded corners ].
When done, this will be available at a nominal fee [ mostly to cover expenses and allow me to show offsetting income to write off “business expenses” ] as a set of pay per view E-book plans for the do-it yourselfers, requiring only a table saw and a drill press.
Or possibly,
for those with more money than time,
as a kit .... some ambition required.
[ if I can get my CNC guy to mass produce from the prototype at a reasonable price].
The rail to stock lockup assembly would have interchangeable inserts, sized to fit the various rails offered on some of the most common pistols.
GLOCK first!
So far, I am thinking of three options:
1.] simple one piece full length straight stock with four rails and a butt plate
2.] shorter version with a side folder [ but I am having problems sourcing a solid, light, cheap side folder here in Canuckistan ...
I may have to make up my own folder mechanism ...
more aluminum rectangular tubing]
3.] a simple telescoping butt assembly, more rectangular aluminum tubing.
So far, the top folding Magpul and the "gun that disappears into a box" designs have been discounted as overly complicated solutions.
Feedback from interested parties will be appreciated ....
and credit given where due for any improvements or ideas used.
This project is intended as a group collaborative effort, so if any of you have a side folder that you are not using, and wish to contribute to the project ... you get your name on the TEST PILOT list first.
Now that I'm officially retired, I have some time [ wellll ... actually, I am busier than before ] to work on some of those projects that have been sitting on my desk as drawings on napkins and such.
Also coming,
an inexpensive DIY aluminum tube AKM/SAGE/TROY alternative for the M-14. Think a tube gun with an M14 action.
NOTE: I will NOT be reactivating my gunsmith license or firearms dealer's licernse, so all of these projects will NOT include any gunsmithing fees, or the sale of firearms. However, I will be reactivating my business license, mostly to allow me to buy materials and parts at wholesale, and I do expect that some $$$ has to flow back in to show offsetting income, and to justify to the tax man that this is a legitimate business, so I can write off all the expenses, if not actually make some small profit.
But I will try to keep things CHEAP!! Profit is not the primary motivation here ...
I retired from my job as THE TAX MAN, so your tax dollars are already at work providing my Govt pension.
and thank you very much for that ...
