Hera H6 - First Impressions

Just wanted to do a little write up on the Hera H6 since nobody seems to be posting about them.

I purchased my H6 from Kelly's and received excellent service. Mine is the OD Green model .223 remington. Would have been nice to be chambered in 5.56 for more ammo options, but there's always the debate that you can use 5.56 in .223 which I will not get into.

First impressions
- Stock is polymer with an aluminum handguard. Folding portion of the stock is easy to use and locks tightly. It does not lock in the folded position. Hard rubber but pad but with .223 I see no need for a softer buttpad.
- Feels really good to shoulder and quite natural.
- Full length rail on top and Mlok on the hanguard gives lots of options for accessories.
- Side loading mag. This is my first time experiencing a side loading mag, but it's actually quite nice. Mag release is on the bottom and easy to use with your support hand.
- Bolt is nice and smooth. Locks tightly.
- Trigger is one of the better triggers I've ever used actually. Very light and crisp.

I haven't put an optic on it yet or brought it to the range, but will update my post later on. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and the rifle definitely represents German quality based on my first impressions. Performance is TBD.

Looking forward to following this thread. I was hot for one of these since they were first announced, and fully intended to grab one up ASAP. It's taken so long that I have picked up a couple of other toys that need some attention, and the recent announcement that the H6 will be followed up with a 14-inch barreled version has sort of distracted me...

I'm shocked that the stock doesn't lock in the folded position. I could have sworn that there was a quick glimpse in one of the Hera videos of a guy wearing this gun slung on his back, muzzle up, with the stock folded. But sure enough, the latest vids from Taccom, etc. all show the German Hera rep casually holding the stock in the folded position with his pinky finger! Nobody asked about it, and he didn't elaborate...

Price of these is a bit scary. Accuracy reviews online are not impressive either.
GSG are "German engineering" as well and are pretty much throw away trash... German budget engineering is a different ballpark all together.

Everything is expensive now days. Who thought an sks would sell for $500 or more. What are you hoping to see for accuracy and at what ranges? The article I read reported decent accuracy at 100-300. I don't think this rifle was intended for anything more than this. Put your hands on one and make your own decision is all I can say.

I dunno buddy, for $1600...wheh. Can buy some really nice guns for that kind of money.
The folding stock makes no sense, shortens it a bit but makes it so bulky I don't think it would fit in a single gun case lol.
Looks like a $500 gun to be honest, not exactly high end materials there. Like a German Keltec bolt gun at Sauer prices lol.
Kind of like a rifle nobody asked for, don't see anything design wise that appeals to me, but that's just me. Especially if the accuracy is subpar, what's left for it's appeal? Not the looks that's for sure lol.

Cabellas sells the Axis for $599, twice a month they are $499 on sale lol.
Not that I was even comparing the Hera unit to the Axis, but since you brought it up...

Any updates on this? I just picked up an as-new H6 and was curious about what types of ammunition showed promise.

Also is the factory bolt knob removable, and if so, what type of threads are present?

The actions are designed by Voere. If their historical guns and modernized mauser parts are any indication this is the good albeit complicated German engineering .

I think this thing looks like a car wreck but I don't write stuff off because it's not my style. Especially when I've never seen one

GUN WAS UNUSABLE....

I purchased one because I’m drawn to oddball firearms, and I was impressed by the feel and finish.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be completely unusable during its first trip to the range. I’ve never experienced a new firearm performing this poorly straight out of the box, especially at this price point. The bolt failed to pick up rounds on the left side of the magazine, leading to stoppages every other round.

The issue seems to stem from the mag catch, which pushes down on the magazine just enough to make rounds on the left side out of reach to the bolt. As a result, the bolt simply rides over the top of the cartridge. Even with the mag-well screwed in tightly, the problem persisted. Pushing upwards on the mag would allow it to pick up the round, but this is not a proper solution.

To add to the frustration, the buttstock became extremely loose after just 20 rounds. While tightening bolts is a straightforward fix, I shouldn’t have to address this on a brand-new rifle.

C-Products LAR mags worked somewhat better since they aren’t deflected by the mag catch, but the fact that the factory magazine doesn’t function properly is a major red flag. It speaks volumes about the lack of quality control at HERA.

Now I’m gearing up for what will likely be a lengthy and frustrating warranty process. My advice: DO NOT BUY unless you can test it with snap caps at the store to ensure it works properly.

PS: there's also a very strange design choice where one of the mag well screws protrudes 1/16" in the center of the feedramp. The mouth of the case would hit this on occasion making operation less than smooth.
