I heard about a Herbert Schmidt .357 revolver that is for sale and would like to know more about it before I go to take a look at it. Can anyone tell me anything about them? I have never heard of them before.

These are German made Revolvers, and for many years.
It is a rather small company that started out with .22 cal Revolvers.
Those I saw were made of quality steel .
They are not "graceful" looking guns.
The .357 Mag also has top quality steel, but again the "looks" bother me.
When you take a look at it, #### the hammer and press the trigger at the
same time and see if the cylinder can still be moved by hand. "On the .22's to me they were excessive, but then again, I am very fussy".
I only handled them, but never fired any of them.

They are quality guns, not pretty but functional. $150 sounds good, sold a .22 with two cylinders for$200, he resold it two years later for $250..

I have a very old H S Model 21 revolver with the .22lr and 22 MAG cylinders. Shoots quite well and it a fun little plinker. They are not works of art to look at but are quite functional and it gets decent accuracy.

I have a Herbert Schmidt .38 Spcl revolver, and it's 'ok'. I bought as my first ever Centre-fire gun at an auction for I think $150. I shot a year's worth of Centre-fire bullseye with it and was decent enough for a beginner. Smith & Wesson cheapass police surplus speedloaders work in it. I've moved on and it just sits in the back of the safe because I can't part with it for nostalgic reasons. I've never seen another one like it, even looking through books and collections. In regular shooter's hands, I've only ever seen single action .22s and they don't seem as well constructed as my centre-fire. Now my revolver is a Ruger GP100 and it kicks ass.

If you end up getting it, please post a picture or two, as I'm curious to see what it looks like. (I'd post a picture of mine, but my digital camera isn't around at home at the moment).

I have never seen any HS .357, but the .22's I've handled and shot would be better used as hammers.
I had one for a while when I trapped.
it was great for stuff that was still alive in snares, but don't even THINK about taking a shot past 20 feet with it!!
Very lousy in the accuracy department....

I also have a HS Mod 21 with .22lr and .22mag cylinders. It also has one 4 1/2 and one 9 1/2 inch barrel. Pretty good little shooter with the 9 1/2 but the 4 1/2 leaves a little to be desired.....though it could be me.
