A few years back a retired fellow gave me a bunch of reloading supplies and in the batch was about 1/2 a cardboard can of Hercules 2400 powder.

Does this powder have any rifle applications other than in something like the 218 Bee?

thanks,
RC

I have burned lots of 2400. Ideal for light, lead alloy bullets in, say 30-06. The 44 mag was built up using 2400. Actually, I prefer W296 or H110. both are a hair slower burning, so add one or two more grains in the 44. These powders are much cleaner burning than 2400, which is quite dirty.

Coincidentally, I just finished making a bunch of .44 mags; 20 gr. of 2400 and a 240 gr. JHP bullet. Max is 21 grains in my Speer manual. Next to 296 I use 2400 most for .44 mag loads.

This was Elmer Keith's powder for his .44Mag. load of 22 grs.2400 large pistol primer(not mag.) and his 250gr. hard cast semi w/c....he used it safely and successfully for many years.....now I see in the manuals that its to heavy....better not tell Elmer that.....I want him on my side if and when I join him!!

Me & my shooting partner took a trip to Salmon Idaho and met the man a few years before passed away. Quite the guy. A couple of his heavy loads in the .357 Mag & 38 Spl, using his 173 gr design SW, 14.5 grs 2400 in 357 cases & 13.5 grs in 38 Spl cases.
