Here are the Ontario Turkey Seminar dates/locations

QuakerBoy has sponcered this program from the start. Matter of fact, QuakerBoy wrote the safety seminar that is gave in this corse today. The main reason for this corse is make everyone aware of the problems this sport has in accidents that relates to Turkey hunting. Turkey hunting is known to be the Number 1 sport that hunters get shot and Ontario is a walking view of keeping the sport safe and clean and it works. The US states are now looking into this program aswell.

Yes the intructors do Plug the company Quakerboy because the company has backed and gave to the turkey program in Ontario from the start. These intructors are just doing the job they are suppost to do, because that is what they get paid to do by the company. No one says in the seminar that you have to buy Quakerboy because they brought it to your attenction , but they are mearly letting you know that Quakerboy has the products to help you along in the sport. If you come out of this corse with a little knowledge of something that you never knew, then your ahead of the game. If you want to find out more , then thats why you will find other QuakerBoy Staff members that work retail stores in shows. They do what they can to help. These guys are not out there to spend the day looking at the floor, but they are not out there to tell you how it is to be done either. All it takes is to ask a person some questions and most of them will go out of there way to help to the best they can.

I hear over and over about the $25.00 people have to spend to take this such safety corse. Well I feel for you all , but if you had taken it 17 years ago it was free of charge. The people that do these corses spend their time all day doing this thing and they are not doing it because they like it , they are doing it because it has to be done. Why should they do it for Free Now ? The price of everything right from the start of Gas to travel to do these things has gone up. You ever buy a pop at one of these shows ? $3.00 bucks so it all costs money. Is that fair for someone to drive hours to a location , pay for what expences it cost to get there and spend the day and they pay out of their own pockets , just for someone to learn what they need to learn to enjoy another aspect of hunting.

Ask yourself this " Now how could I hunt turkeys and enjoy the sport everyone else does if No body is putting on these safety seminars anymore" because No one would pay them for what it cost to give up a day with their families just to allow more hunters in Ontario.

These safety corses are not put on to torment you and put you through a day of nightmare, just think you only have one day of it and its all over. Next weekend your out with your young lad scouting and learning togeather and enjoying the time with your kids, but when you get to them tracks and your explaining to your young lad what you found out in the corse , just remember one thing ! The intructors are at another day of all day teaching these little things that you hated to go do, not enoying the outing everyone else is and for months and months. Families of these instructors sit for months and wait , because they are doing their jobs.

We all enjoy taking the time to talk and teach what we can , because we have a love for the sport. Most of us are they same as you only we have a job we have to do.

I have to laugh at times when I spend countless hours at shows , because I do see a few at every show that just will not talk and drives right into a call area and grabs something off the wall with out asking and questions about Pro or Cons about a product. These are the type that go home and come to find out , it does not work as they thought and then the product is crap and the company is ####. By mearly taking the time to talk to rep's can help you out some of your thoughts and really we don't give a hoot wether you buy or not.

Darryl , I appoligise , I forgot to talk to you about mouth calls on Sunday. I froze my but off in the corner and just wanted to get out of there. We will talk , hopefully at the sportsman show...BT

I took the course a long time ago so I really dont know what its like now so I wont comment....................

but..... Why do I have to take a course at all?????? Thats the part that gets me. OK, no beard, no shoot. Got it !

I didnt learn anything about calling at the seminar because when I took it it was mostly about safety but somehow I have still managed to bag at least one bird every year since.

Maybe we should have a Moose Hunting course put on by Buck Expert, or a Deer Hunting Course put on by Knight and Hale.......

I get what your saying Adrian,

But to me safe hunting is safe hunting, turkeys, deer, rabbits whatever. I guess its a good refresher for the safety rules. But it should be entirely optional.

gth , I understand your thoughts as well. I think they are just making sure everyone understands that Turkey hunting is a close shooting sport and most get caught up in the hunt and sometimes forget. I would think the difference between the larger game and turkeys is the size of the target as big game you need to pick that spot for a good shot. Turkeys you have one small spot that could be anything if it is not idenified properly. Because of the frustrations involved with so many close calls with the bird in turkey hunting it creates a larger window for mistakes. I believe they are just trying to get the hunter to understand these issues before they hit the woods. I know most do and have to say that most hunters I've came across are pretty good, but someone that has never seen or understand some of the things that can happen in the turkey woods , could create some bad situations.

I hunted with a lady from PA here back a few years ago and she was shot by 2 hunters at the same time. Man she was a walking basket case in the woods here and she took the corse 2 days before. She said she liked what she had taken , because it places everyone on the same level when they enter the woods...BT

Adrian, you, better get a pillow, this could take a while... :) tried to explain...
I'll be at the Sportsmens show too...
I was bored out of my head on sunday, and spent most of the day walking around, it was too cold over there. It only got worse when we had to takedown. I had to wrap a Tshirt around my head to keep my head form frostbite the wind was so bad outside.

I did mine 2 years ago...could have been done in one day.....it was dragged out over 2 days and turned into an sales pitch for OFAH and Quaker Boy..

must have been in your course, sales pitch and a money grab... OK I guess for the really green newbie..

Ok yall can flame me, I read the rest of the posts and it seems the course is better now. However that being said, when I took the course in the spring of 03'. The substance of the course could have been taught in about 3hrs the other day and a bit was all sales pitch. I am very happy to hear it has changed for the better as I have a few buddies taking it soon.

Good luck all this spring, looks ta be a good one. (I saw more birds this past fall than ever before!)
