Please note the rifle in question is not mine.

Never thought I would see the day that an sks failed. It has come, over one year ago ! lol. Seriously though the trigger group went on it. No big deal, dropped a new one in. My buddy still loves his sks.

We had it out about 2 months ago and had been shooting 300 yards no issues. Go home, clean it up and put it in the safe. Here is where it gets fun ! We took it out last week for some 100 yard gong plinking and it couldn't hit a barn from 10 ft away ! We had broke 2 sight tools trying to adjust the sight post down as it was shooting low. Finally my buddy and I just ground the post down. Take it to the range again today it is still ALL over the place... We are dumbfounded... UNTILL, we strip it again.... We notice the barrel has a slight bend UP... This rifle had not been mistreated in ANY way or stored in any weird ways or under pressure.

Has anyone else had an sks barrel bend or heard of barrels bending ?! It wasn't much but once you see it along a ruler or next to something flat you notice its maybe a 5 Deg bend upwards after the gas port.

Anyways he went out and got another today ! Thought I would share !

That's really weird and random a bend like that. Only thing I could think of is shooting til it's super hot and it got banged or wedged that way. Super unlikely but I'm throwing it out there.

You now have spare parts. Gas tubes, pistons, op rod, springs, and trigger groups are handy to have a spares. You also have a stock you can refinish.

I think they straighten barrels all the time.. within reason (not a target gun ) :) But likely not worth it since sourcing another would likely be easier

That's what I asked. He persisted it has been in the safe lol.

I'm sure your buddy's a nice guy. But he may also be a liar...

My money is on he was acting out a zombie apocalypse fantasy in his underpants at home alone when he fell (ninja rolled) down the stairs and broke his fall (cat-like dismount) with the rifle barrel. Next time you're there, check for bayonet gouges is the stair well. That'll be the proof in the pudding (zombie brains).

I was there and seen this thing! I've never seen a rifle with a bent barrel before but however he did it, he did it well!!!! I lol'd when I looked down the bore and felt bad at the same time.

On the bright side it's prolly zero'd for 600 yards now.

lol this reminds me of that scene in "9th Company" were the one Soviet soldier is issued a PKM that has a bent barrel........ he later trys to bend it back by prying it between 2 rocks !
