Here is my brand new Chaparral 73 in 357 Mag....

I've been looking at the ones Marstar has for sale, but was a bit turned off by the rough looking action in their video clip of it... Then, there's the bad reviews, from a few years back, on a bunch of US forums... But, I love the look, and the price too, and wonder if there's any CGN folks who've bought one recently?

I have been thinking about one of these for a while. I am having a hard time deciding between one of these or spending the extra $500 on a Uberti. Anyone compaired the 2 side by side?

All the comparisons, that I've read, are a few years old, and from the US. Apparently, some early Chaps were assembles in the USA, with shoddy results...

Marstar seems to have a good reputation for warranty issues, but I don't want to have to send something back n forth....

The extra $500 that I save, by not going with an Uberti, would cover an 1873 single action revolver to match.... %10 off, when buying as a combo....

Thats a bueatiful rifle and looks to be well made, and the only weak point

on that rifle is the toggle design(course you know that)and will load her to

it;s right presssure demands. I am thinking about one right now.

You did a nice job on the wood.

Bob

Heads up. At Marstar, which seems to be the only retailer of the Chaparrals in Canada, 7 out of the 8 models of the 1873's, are out of stock. With the factory shut down for 9 months now, it looks unlikely that we'll be seeing any more of these, new, for a while, if ever!
I just purchased one of the last. It's the case hardened, 24 1/4" octagon, in .357. I had wanted to install the .38 elevator, but all of them are gone....

Excellent review!! Bravo ;)
I was contemplating getting one of these to match my .45LC Chaparral SAA revolvers but like others had mentioned the bad US reviews I was turned off and went with a Chiappa '92. But after your fine and well detailed review I feel there is still hope in getting one as long as Marstar has one in stock. Thanks again.
