I figured I would share my M14 Shorty as it sits in squad scout mode not going to do much more to this one other then navy brake, LER scout scope when I have more $$$ and SA stock.

I used snapseed to edit pic not the best quality.

SA Scout scope mount is one of the best looking set-ups IMHO.

I like how you decided not to go balls deep on the upgrades, and still manage a ###y build.

I want to do the same kind of scout set up with an ICR or blackfeather stock, A2 grip / butt, and forward mounted scope on a shorty. I'll put one small rail on the left and install a navy brake. That's my definition of an awesome semi-auto pseudo-scout rifle, and I do like scouts (no homo)

might wanna go for a different stock option with the blackfeather.. it might have just been my paws.. but the A2 stock contacted the top of my hand, made for an uncomfortable grip... i ended up going with a RRA Operator A2 and really liked it

you can see from the picture how close the top of the grip is to the bottom of the AR rifle type stock.
when frank releases the high stock adapter for the blackfeather then the A2 will be a solid option

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I appreciate your comment surrounding the SA stock ill look at your other options that will work better ergonomically.

Let's see your guys scout set ups and if anyone ever wants to go shoot. It would be awesome to meet some more m14 enthusiast in Calgary area!

Cheers

Our ultra-low, scout-style aluminum hand guards are in OP1 right now (top side). Next week, we do OP2 (under side). Looking forward to putting out a Canadian hand guard for scout style setups.

Great stuff but? How many Mods will we be able to make after all this. Hang on to your hats. Its not over until the CDN and Provincial GOVs dictate. As soon as they get their hands on the new Obama legislation it wont be pretty. Follow this thread and many others that will be born over the next few months. My advice, stay low and understand that the politicians shall rule your lives yet again.

More likely buy everything you can, while you can.

I take it these rails will be near the gas assembly? They won't be 9 and 3 o'clock like the UTG?

I'm just thinking about a small rail to slap a flashlight onto a scout build.

Do you think you'll ever design a handguard able to mount a scout scope or red dot?

In the last couple years I've really been craving the m1a scout kool-aid, and the more I think about it, the more it just makes sense.

Hey soon to boost - ( or anybody else that knows...) where did you find the SA scout mount? What's a fair price for one?

Nice. I've got an Ultimak forward LER mount on mine, although I wonder if it needs a little more fitting. Aside from that I'm not planning anything fancy. The classic M14 look is something I don't want to fool with.

They turn up on the EE every now and then...or Give SA a call and see if is an exportable part.
I paid $160.(new) for mine including handguard from a CGN'er who seems to get them occasionally.

Yeesh.... $160 is a bit spendy but that is the look I want. I see marstar has a smaller version for $70 that you could mount an aim point or something similar but not a proper scope. Do you guys think I could double them up to mount a scope? If not I will wait for the proper SA mount to be available.

I couldn't judge how well your idea would work...but keep an eye on the EE for a used SA Scout mount, the $160. price I quoted was for a n.i.b. unit, used will be cheaper.
