Here lays the issues with owning too many guns

I used to have the "too many guns" syndrome, but have recently pared down the fleet to where if I go hunting today I have two to choose from....a stainless 700 in 7 Rem Mag in a McMillan stock with a Jewell trigger and a 3.5-10X Leupy.....or for sunny dry days..a Pre'64 M70 Featherweight (1959) in 30'06 with a 2.5-8X Leupy...one of these and my pump 20 Gauge in the truck and I'm ready to go....

I have the same problem, so what I do is let one of my kids select a few, then I let my other kid select the rest. Then they play rock, paper, scissors
Until theirs only one left. "Dad this is the one your taking"::)
It's actually kinda fun to not know what you will end up with!.

....I have never been a one gun guy or a lucky gun guy..

I know how you feel....just sighted in a new gun today....Im taking it hunting in two weeks as my primary rifle.....backed up by another gun who's never been hunting either.

As long as you have confidence in your gear and your ability to use it....then go for it.

Take the two that you:

- cleaned and examined, tightening screws, etc;
- sighted in with at least 10 shots within the past month or so;
- know the trajectory of out to whatever distance you might shoot at; and
- that you shoot well and with confidence.

Leave the rest at home to consider for next year.

sounds advice..but I'd change that last line to "sell the rest"....:)

Seems like at some point most of us get in this general predicament, more new rifles to shoot than game to shoot at. Not a bad place to be, really. Personally I'd suggest NOT going with the old tried and true .308 or .270 as you've been-there-done-that. Grab the 6.5x284 or the .257 wby and have at her with them for at least one hunt each, I say.

All summer working up loads for several different calibers and now that hunting season is here I find myself going to ol' reliable, the time proven 30-06 and the 12 gauge.

I don't see the big deal this year I decided to only use my .375" cal rifles for hunting and next year it is going to be my .308" cal rifles or if I'm running my quad in deer season it is going to be my new Rem 700 LSS in 280 Rem with a Kwik-Klip mag for loading the rifle quickly when I'm jumping off fast.

If I get to do a whitetail hunt in Alberta it is going to be my old Husquvarna rechambered too 270 Weatherby that was given to me by my grandfather almost 40 years ago then he traded back for a few other rifles and just months before he died @ 94 years of age he gave back too me.

Oh you of little understanding!! Have you even seen all those clubs golfers pack around.They say each one is for a different use.I don't know,I'm not that crazy. Rifles are like that,one for heavy brush,another for clearcuts,one for fair weather, another for sleet,one for deer only,another for deer/imature moose. See how simple you choice can be. Heck,I have three 30-06s and I always know which one to take. Boy do you have a lot to learn
