Nice looking rifle, undoubtably well made. Not my cup of tea, but probably 100% better than the original abortion posted!!:p
 

Oh yes!! Although I don't find the W-R as ugly as some folks, this is getting better and better. It would be a hard choice between a Mauser and a H&H.

Thanks, buckbrush, for the explanation re the bottom metal. A DG rifle loaded from a stripper clip- very interesting. Could be useful when your Cape buff starts running amok.

Regarding the Westly Richards stripper loading system. The recievers used by them were standard Mauser 98 recievers complete with stipper clip guide. The strippers themselves were specially made to hold 5 rds. If you lost them you could use standard Mauser strippers for the 7mm and 8mm. These were not as long as the special ones and would only hold 3 or 4 of the bigger cartridges. ( I can't remember which).

These cartridges were very early examples of rebated rim cartridges. I.E. a standard size case head with a much larger body than the head.
