I've noticed this a lot and was curious as to why someone would do this..

Why would someone choose to run folding iron sights only to leave them up all the time???

Because the rears would get in the way of magnified (eg: ACOGs/Elcans, telescopic scopes) optics if they were up all of the time, instead of being tucked under.

Well obviosly its cooler to tell your buddies " I HAVE FOLDING SIGHTS and OH YOURS ARE JUST FIXED how borring" hahahahah
 
Some people just like to train with a co-wittness too... I personally hate it but I can see the merit in it if you can. Well why not just have a fixed rear sight then? Because 9/10 times they are more bulky and heavy. Needless to say this only has to do with non-mag optics

I understand the logic behind co-witness training and folding them for the use of optics. What I don't get are the folks who have an optic be it a CCO or magnified, and they still run their sights(front mostly) up? If the front sight wasn't a concern for your FOV, why run a folder? In the case of CCO users I see them with both sights up? The benefit to a folder is kind of lost if you don't fold them, no?

Your comment refers to quality not reasoning behind the practice. UTG is pure crap, and a lot of people get too hung up around brand names.

From personal experience I can tell you that when your depending on "red dot" sights to work they will let you down.Some optics, Eo-tech for example become invisible in bright sunlight if you turn the sun to your back,no prob. my irons are up and I can continue to engage no time lost.
 
So what you are wondering is why someone would replace their front sight base with a folder and then flip that folder up which basically negates removing their front sight base in the first place?

Answer: Probably because they have too much money.
 
I can't see that reason unless it's practice for when the optic fails. I do that from time to time but I include popping the sights up from the down position and firing some rounds in the drill.

I already covered this possibility and it makes sense. The question is why someone WITH an optic would still choose to run either front or rear or both sights in the up position.
