Why would someone choose to buy a Ferrari with our current speed limit?
They bought it for the sound of the engine.
Why would someone choose to buy a Ferrari with our current speed limit?
Why would someone bang their head against the wall?.............
Because it feels so good when they stop!
From personal experience I can tell you that when your depending on "red dot" sights to work they will let you down. Some optics, Eo-tech for example become invisible in bright sunlight if you turn the sun to your back,no prob. my irons are up and I can continue to engage no time lost.
So what you are wondering is why someone would replace their front sight base with a folder and then flip that folder up which basically negates removing their front sight base in the first place?
Answer: Probably because they have too much money.
I can't see that reason unless it's practice for when the optic fails. I do that from time to time but I include popping the sights up from the down position and firing some rounds in the drill.
So I guess its safe to say that those who run optics(of any sort) with the iron sights flipped up(front, back or both) clearly don't understand the concept behind folding sights. Just making sure there isn't some valid reason behind the practice, before I continue to shake my head and laugh at those that do it.

You're one of the last people that should be looking at anyone and shaking your head, laughing.
why do civi rifles have bayonet lugs, pinned 30 round mags, grenade launchers, flashlights, etc...why because canada is a somewhat free country, and we can do what we want within the law...and if anyone has a problem with that they can eat shti...
For those of us who play 3 Gun or Multi-Gun flipping them up, when your Optic craps out on you, just takes time and when you are running against the clock and that isn't a good thing.
For those of you who play make believe tacticool you might get a make believe bullet in your head while you crouch behind your make believe cover, sorry plywood doesn't stop bullets very well, while you are flipping up your sights and out of make believe action.
For those who sit on your bed reading the latest edition of Combat Magazine it gives you something to laugh about while you mentally lead the charge of the light brigade into the valley of death and destruction.
Other than for those reasons, why ask or care?

I hear you on the three gun explanation, but why not run fixed sights then? usually cheaper, more robust and less to fail as they have few moving parts.
TDC
Faster sight acquisition with red dot optics, no moving parts that I am aware of. Fixed flip sights on the Beretta Storm are not easy to flip up quickly.

Well obviosly its cooler to tell your buddies " I HAVE FOLDING SIGHTS and OH YOURS ARE JUST FIXED how borring" hahahahah
I'm lost, are you saying that with the sights up and running a red dot you achieve a faster sight acquisition? The bold has me confused as well.
TDC
Yes, and once down the rear sight on the Beretta Storm is not easy to flip up quickly. It is much easier to just leave them up.

Ok, the sights on the storm have issues but they're integral. I'm talking about after market flip ups like Troy, Magpul, ARMS.
As for quicker sight acquisition with the irons up. That's a crock. If you understand how to use a reddot, you shouldn't be looking at the sights(either red dot or irons) you should be looking at the target with both eyes open. The advantage of the reddot over irons is the single focal plane.
TDC
You better go back and read my post TDC. The reason I run the optic is for FASTER sight acquisition.
